I'd like to bin the big noisy viscous fan thing for an electric one:cool:
Is this a good idea? I'm hoping it will release a horsepower or two :thumbs

fantastic idea..... just make sure you buy a thermostatic controlled one and not a manual one more horse power for sure

im going the same route, got a kenlowe waiting to go on, just got to get the seal for top hose, about £3.50 with p&p, going to make up mounting brackets the weekend to fit in front of rad, should be fitting next month. :thumb2

Hmm I thought it would go where the old fan was!
How much was yours and where did you source it?

mines a 13" fan and my neighbour gave it to me so long as i removed it from his 3.0 capri, that was swiftly sorted, im putting it in front of rad because thats the way the air flows when travelling, if it's put where the fan is, when motoring you are defeating the object, fan blowing and air being rammed in, if you get my drift, you can find them on e-bay fairly cheap or find a fan from another vehicle and the thermostatic controls can be bought again from e-bay. :thumb2

dont that depend on the way the fan spins as to pushing or pulling the air through

yes, but this kenlowe will alter to which way you wire it up. :thumb2

I dont think I'll have enough room in front of the rad:augie
I'm going to put the winch there:sly
I had thought that the air would flow over/through the rad anyway and then the Kenlow will switch on when things get a bit heated!
Maybe a bigger one inside will still work:thumbs
The thermostat side of things is fitted where?

the thermostat fits to inner wing or some where convienient, senser bulb fits into top hose using a rubber adapter to seal properly, and then the wiring, i will run mine from constant live so fan can continue running when ignition is turned off, well thats the plan anyway, no reason why it wont work though. :thumbs

I'm fitting my leccy fan behind the rad so theres room in the future for a winch up front.
Gonna use the thermostatic control where a probe inserts between the radiator fins.
Will have a switch inside the car so that I can turn it off when going through water if necessary.

Tezzer a quick question?

Do you think a 13" fan is big enough as the standard fan is 16"?

hi zippy, it say's 10" fan, but this mod is on the card anyway mate, :thumb2

hi nejones, the kenlowe fans are quite powerful but i can only but try it, not a problem to change later though, im using 13" because thats all i have at the moment, i do have another fan from another vehicle so i could connect 2 together i need be. :clap:D

13" will be fine unless you do heavy towing over the alps for instance.

Cooling capacity is very high on the t2.

Make sure you set the thermostat at a sensible figure-depending on which hose you place the sensing element.

I have mine in the bottom hose set at 70 deg C.

A manual override is always handy.

Tim.

thanks for that tim, i will be towing a caravan, but not abroad, i was thinking of fitting sensing bulb in the top hose, but bottom would make a tidier job. how did you seal the bottom hose? :thumb2

thats true, i sent it to batty, not done it yet though.. same reason as all teh other things i want to do!

best mod i ever did to my vitara so i did the same on my mav

if you follow my workshop download, you can use any fan size you want. the only reason i used twin 10" fans was because my thermostat from x-eng had the capacity for two fans: a low temp one and a high temp one.

beware with the capillary thermostats (bulb) as they can be a bugger to seal. also, i would recommend fitting to the bottom hose as thatll be the temp entering the engine. if you fit it to the top hose your fan will come on everytime the thermostat opens, which is pointless!

one last thing. im intending on fitting my twins behind the rad soon (too make way for my aircon), however there is the slight problem of a nasty viscous hub in the way! i tired removing it from an old water pump using a hammer and chisel (thinking it was 'screwed' on) and also a ball joint splitter (thinking it was lightly pressed on). result: it didnt budge!! its pressed on tight, so itll have to be cut off which ill do later on in the year.

hope that helps some people
