sounds like the bearing on the xfer box is maybe giving up?
So I wonder if the quality Nissan servicing has ignored the xfer box oil level habitually?
As the gearbox/xfer box is a bloody heavy lump to juggle with...
Have a good dig in the manual, it might be feasible to fit a new bearing in situ???

If there is no oil in the transfer box, then either:-

It has all leaked out, so there should be signs around the box.
It was drained and never refilled, so are the drain and fill plugs in place?
It was never filled with oil at the factory. Very unlikely.

.

no sign of drastic oil leak, fill plug was f tight, so i assume never checked in 82k miles, all box's will use/leak oil over time, when i said no oil, i mean i stuck my finger in fill point and couldnt feel any, not sure capacity but i used almost 2ltrs to bring to level.
quality main dealer servicing, not just nissan, i have to give them that.
i will do the 700 miles tomorow with 4x4 engaed but no prop, you never know the bearing may respond to some oil thrown on it.
will refit shaft next week and see how it is, ground is partched where we are so no need for 4x4 just yet.
car didnt come with 7 seats from the factory (even boot floor retainer not fitted), but has got a large gun rack installed in its place, dont remember seeing that on the options list!
have nicked rearmost seats out of old maverick, so will remove army clobber and refit, odd fabric, but who can tell when you are sitting in it?
had some weird army trailer socket, now rewired to civilian spec.

all in all still pleased with it, and the Maverick went to its new home as well this morning, so got cash back, total 18,700 miles in it in just under 10 months, not bad for a 14 year old car.

Consider putting some molyslip in the gear box and transfer box.
Do a search on "Molyslip"

everytime ive had vibration etc around 50mph its either been wheel balancing or tracking ......just a idea

no not wheels, all new tyres when i got it, but have had ballance redone, was out but still the same, tracking fine, definetly somthing to do with front drive train, sitting at dover waiting for ferry, 200 miles down here no vibration with front prop in boot!
seafrance has a poorley boat so 3 hour delay!! wont be home till late, but drive is superb now, and air con works, luxury.

will get new uj's, but suspect ray is right, output bearings in transfer box, i maybe able to get end plate off whilst still on car, but we will see it oil makes a differance, has been in 4x4 all the way here, so shaft will have been spinning well.

I think my 3.0 maybe suffering from the same kind of vibration...

Is the UJ available separately (pattern part rather then Nissan) or is it the case of a "new" propshaft?

Paul
