Hi Guys,

I haven't managed to log on for a bit due to work and a lapsed account, but today I have had a go at installing a USB power supply in the truck, which I was inspired to do after reading a recent post by a member here.

I bought the USB unit off of eBay (link below) for around £4.00 and decided to fit it in the cubbyhole under the heater controls. I picked up a 12v power supply from the cigar lighter feed and fitted a 2amp fuse between it and the USB unit.

Below is an image of how I fixed it. I used a step drill to make a tidy hole in the cubbyhole and fed the wire and USB trailing socket through. I was quite pleased with the result, however when my phone is plugged in it seems to interfere with the radio, especially on FM. This is not a major problem as my beloved Radio 4 is also on long wave :)

Does anyone now why this is the case, and if there is anyway to stop the problem... Can you still buy suppressors for radios even?

Here is the link for the unit...

And below a couple of pictures of the installation...

Good to see you back on Alan. Neat job you have done:thumbs

I have the same interference with dash cams, had two so far and both do the same on Terrano and Skoda. Upset me too as I have the same gadget just not got around to fitting it yet so may just bin it instead.

my phone plays up the tv picture in caravan if to close.
i put a 4way one in mine.

The Terrano radio seems to be very prone to picking up interference, my phone interferes with the radio if it is just in the cubby hole and the tablet interferes when it is in the holder on the dash, even when neither is even plugged in. The rear LED lights, up by the rear roof mounted aerial also cause interference when turned on. When the tablet is plugged in, it even manages to cause interference when the CD is playing.

I keep saying I am going to change the radio to one designed to connect to phones, as it must have better screening.

try wrapping the usb gadget in tin foil the 12 volt end of course, ground the tin foil if possible

Thanks to all for the replies, I'll try the tinfoil suggestion as well Kitchenman It's not going to cost much after all!

Thanks again for the input. Much appreciated

Regards

Alan
