Ok, finally sussed the MoT failure having just been down the garage to chat with the owner.
This might be a common problem so worth checking yourself as well!
Basically, as you will see from the exploded diagram, the two-part wheel bearing sits on the stub axle (what Nissan calls a 'knuckle' in the diagram) and is secured in place and adjusted by the wheel bearing lock nut. On wifeys truck, the thread on both the stub axle AND the locking nut are stripped or deformed in the centre section, making it impossible to properly tighten the bearing up - which has allowed play in the bearing which has consequently worn out.
So, what I need if someone has one, is the stub axle (or 'knuckle'), complete with the bearing locking nut/ring (the two bits I've outlined in red - they are common, it seems, to both fixed and auto hubs so not worried if its from a late MkII).....but its crucial that the thread on BOTH is in excellent condition, i.e. the locking ring will wind the full length of the stub axle thread without any play.
Can you PM me if you've got one, that ideally I could do with getting here to the garage by Tuesday?
Thanks in anticipation. :thumb2
