Uphill assist

Can any member tell me how to tell if an xtrail is fitted with uphill assist. mine has downhill assist as there is a switch for it but I cant see anything for uphill assist.
The owners manual refers to "uphill assist where fitted" but makes no references to switching it on or off etc.

Any help appreciated

Think you mean hill-start assist, which holds the footbrake for a few seconds after you take your foot off (normally if you're in gear) to give you time to hit the accelerator.

Easiest way to check if you've got it is to park on a hill with engine running, stick it in gear, handbrake off (keep the clutch depressed) then take your foot off the brake - if you've got HSA the car will sit tight for a few seconds then roll backwards. However if its like the VW system, which is a little different, it may sit like that for longer....either way you'll know you've got it.

Its not normally switchable, doesn't need to be. Most newer BMWs have it; in their case it holds for two seconds only, but doesn't knacker the clutch like the VW system apparently can.

im not taking the piss pete,:augie it's true, thats what my driving instructer told me, hand brake for hill starts, and low gear for downhill, simples, did'nt have have all that cobblers when i took my test.

mind with all them sheep up high where you live, you might have to get hill assist fitted to your truck. lol:naughty

whats up with just moving your right foot quickly between brake and throttle or for the
big boot/well/rigger brigade bit of heel and toe, hand brake is for parking purposes.

defensive driving advises using foot brake stood in traffic to protect from following traffic.
