Wonder if i should think about this,it was either underseal or wax oil :? :?

id go wax oil i reckon underseal peels wax oil is like what they use at factory

thats what i love about you gorgios allways ready with the racial stere types with the slimest of excuses!

If you wax oil or underseal on top of rust are you not just sealing in the rust to carry on making holes in your baby?

Not if you stop the air and water getting to it, these are what causes the oxidation (rust) in the first place and preventing them will greatly reduce corrosion.

oi what u got against waxoil lol!!!!!!!!

i have nothing against wax oil i love it perhps i am a born sealer after all
as for the rust thing, i think wax oil has rust inhibitors and stuff to help kill off old rust, i think underseal may hold the damp in in some cases!

if it doesnt adhere well and leaves a pocket, that could tanke in moisture and holds it against the metal, i have allways though it could make things worse!

but i suppose if it is all clean a nd dry and well stuck it willl as tolbox says exclude air and water and slow the process down! whenever i use it i give the underbody a good steam cleaning or jet washing a few days before hand!

Can u spray with that stuff boggart or is it a brush job??

you can get waxoil in black as well now and i think it lols nice blacked under the body, apparently if it gets scratched through or damaged it can 'bleed' back over the damage, where as underseal if split or scraped leaves dangerous pockets to hold the damp.

we allways stand the waxoil tin in a buket of close to boiling water and then spray it with a compressor and a parafin gun, you can also add a little white spirits to furhter help it flow! the long nozzel on the gun lets you get it in all the nooks and crannies, but do wear a mask! and dont do it if you plan any paintowrk or simmilar on anyhting close by as the wax in the air does settle bit!

I always use Wurth stone guard as link.

Applied with a spray gun it gets in to every corner. Its good stuff and stays elastic to prevent it from chipping.
You can get it in aerosols as well but would cost a fortune to do it all this way.

Waxoil is good stuff and easy to apply but needs redoing every few years, when applied externally.
I rebuilt a bulkhead / door post etc on a Landy many years ago, replacing all the badly rusted parts with new metal, after the welding, filling and spraying were finished I drilled holes in all the hollow places / cavities behind the dash and spray filled them with waxoil, it didn’t half pen and ink for a month or two but held any further rust at bay for a good ten years before it was sold on and even then there was no rust. To be honest I was amazed by it because I new there was some untreated rust present internally and fully expected it to brake out after a couple of years.

I do mine every year just to keep on top of it mainly because of bottoming out on speed bumps etc, well that was in my cars (lowered)but will do the same with the T2  Which I bottomed out the other week in the dales on a off road speed bump  Can you remember them boys

I did mine with a spray gun that connects to my compressor the gun cost me £15 and i got the non setting underseal from a body shop supplys I put a large plastic sheet on the ground put the car up on axle stands and did the whole job in under an hour that was 4 or 5 years ago and still looks good the dirt just gets washed off in the wet.
