Tyre wear

Hi chaps,

Is there any particular problem on the terrano that would cause massive tyre wear on the inside of the front ? I have killed a set of new tyres in about 8000 miles. Drivers side right down to the canvas. The tyre pressures are right and I know it hasn't been in an accident. Is it the normal tracking/camber out or is there a common problem on these ?

I have always found mine does wear the inside edges more then the outside, but I still get 30 to 40K out of a set of tyres. I find the fronts tend to go before the rear, but this means when I need to buy a new set, I put the least worn rear on the spare, and then put 4 new ones on the car.

I would look at your tracking.

I too have found edges wear and I’m on Terrano 3 and 4 at the moment. Though not as quick as yours, I’ve never had tyres last as long as 40k miles but I always replace before they get to wear indicators too.
My first thoughts would be tracking, problem is once your tyres have significant edge wear the tracking will not adjust properly. In my experience since I’ve owned a terrano since 2002 I’ve not found many people that could set the tracking correctly and indeed some tyres places do not have the equipment for such latge tyres which I do wonder maybe a cop out.
I would also have steering linkages checked for wear too.

Even after tracking mine used to do the same, Probably a camber issue. May be both.

I think I may have to take it in to have it looked at. The suspension is well past its best so that can't be helping

A wheel alignment check should identify the issue most likely the tracking , but could be camber angle, will be interesting to see what it turns out to be.

Also camber could be out of whack from worn out ball joints, rubber bushings etc etc

thanks for the advice chaps :thumb2. I shall have to have a good look at things. The MOT is up later this month so I think he will come off the road for a good while so I can sort all his issues out
