What will I need ?

I'm thinking fill the main tank with veg, but I want a smaller say 10 ltr tank to start and stop her on that ill put diesel in

I guess just a valve/tee on the flow pipe to the pump so I can switch the diesel on and off ?

What about the return tho ?

Where do you want to return the unused fule to
Think makeitfit did dule tank

I'm not sure, depends how much is unused. If it was just a bit it could just go in main tank with the veg, but if it is loads it will have to go back in the small diesel tank, spin would need 2 valves I guess

Not sure you need two tanks

Only been cought out afew timewith the weather.

Two tanks ideal for pure veg running. As for a small tank have a look at marine tanks like outboard ones. Tough as old boots and cheap .
There are three way switchable fuel line diverter thingies available so you can switch fuels and still have correct returns going on. Simple engine bay plumbing.
If I get my lappy out later I'll find links :D

Would it matter about the return because your only going to get diesel in the oil and that will only help it. Its a bit a messing round for little point to have it go back to the corect tank.

Start it on diesel flick it over after a couple of mile then flick it back about 5 mile from home. Wont that work.

Yes of course, but if the flow rate is twice what the engine is going to actually consume then your diesel tank will quickly drain in to your veg oil tank, making the whole thing pointless

Would it be that high ? i say this because its a suction pump so it should only suck what it really needs. If it has a fuel pump them i could understand it as the pump will keep sending the same amount of fuel even on lower revs.

I could be wrong as i know nothing about anything according to my daughter. :(

Fair point, I'd be interested to see how it works.

Perhaps it's dependent on engine speed then, but when u shut the throttle that flow has to go somewhere, ie the return, but like u say whether its worth worrying about remains to be seen

using 2 solenoids and a return is a simple enough job.

You also could do the join above the original fuel tank so only original feed/return will run to the engine from the back.

You will get lots of return flow . The injector pump chucks loads out to the injectors and the spare goes back to the tank. 8mm flow 6mm return.

ok twin tank set up i have in my truck u need two 3 way valves (i have the 1s in makeitfits second link ) 1 has the surply from main tank and surply from small tank then surply to the ip the second valve has return from ip and return to main tank but the other inlet/outlet from the second valve (return valve) goes to a close loope to a t in the surply pipe to the ip simply:thumbs

Whats ip mate ?

Reading that is not making sense ( I am a little tipsy tho :D )

My twin tank set up, 20lt tank in boot, with svo veg. i used the fuel return pipe from the pump to the diesel tank.... used this to take the veg from the small tank and feed it into another fuel filter/ heat exchanger in engine bay, one 3 way solenoid fitted, with the setup 2 inputs 1 output.
input 1 diesel from main tank with no power to solenoid
input 2 svo veg from small 20lt tank with 12v injected to solenoid ( if power fails it will revert back to main diesel tank)
output to fuel pump

i only switch over to svo when the teperature reaches at least 60 degrees c at heat exchanger and always turn off a mile or so before i stop, dont wont to be starteing on cold veg this weather.

fuel return from pump on a closed loop back to the output of the solenoid (dont forget to seal the return tube that goes back into the main tank)

this is my setup works fine for the last year or so.......will try to post pictures tomorrow if i can
