had a run to coast other day all went well til close to home on way back noticed
bit of noise on throttle. sounded like heater blower on full belt from mid throttle.

doesnt sound especially bad, recall on terrano front pipe failed and could then
detect turbo coming in. on Patrol doesnt sound noisey like terrano did, any idea
whats failed??

Prob totally wrong but have you checked to see if all the rubber turbo pipes are tight incase so of the air is leaking out

Cooling fan?? Or as Sweety says boost pressure leak between turbo an inlet manifold ??

Hey up bud.
From what I can gather from your txt you own a mighty Y61 3.0TDI ?
Not sure bout the age tho mate

If it was your intercooler you would more than likely have heard it especially with acceleration. (sounds cool but aint). Or if your cooler pipes split or loose would give nice black smoke trial and/or some nice turbo hissing type noise.

Turbo boost can be dropped a little if necessary but acquire and fit turbo boost gauge first to keep an eye on pressure.
EGR valve can be blocked too. Common with TDI owners.
Air Flow Meter could be a possible fault too.
Take it to a Nissan clinic and get them to plug it in to find faults and they may be able to pin point your problem.
However have a good look on
http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/index.php too. Thez alot of very good info on there for Patrols of all ages and types.

found my hole as it were, top edge of first hose coming up from turbo, looks like
the intercooler shroud?/cover has rubbed it, doing a good job of rubbing another
pipe leading from front of engine under the cover. hope easy replacement and
hoping to mend/seal/tape in mean time. still runs well even with some air escaping
funny doesnt sound half as whistlely? under bonnet so must be effect of air/sound
bouncing off bonnet and maybe coming thru the hvac.

Might be a good time to replace the standard rubber pipes for some silicon jobs as they won't go soft & suck them selfs in like rubber pipes can do:thumb2then you could cut a bit off the old pipe & cable tie it over the new pipe where it's rubbing & just replace it when it wears out:augie

could this be the most expensive hose ever then.

local garage ordered it in at £132+vat, flip about 8 inch long.

atleast only charge 25 quid labour to fit it and kindly filed
down the roughish edge of the engine cover that caused the
problem.

did try temp repair myself but the heat and air pressure
straight off the turbo destroyed the tape in minutes. just
hope it fixes issue for good. trying to console myself that
if part had been cheaper then labour would have been
higher probably, anyones guess what franchised dealer
would have charged.

main thing is its done and ready for tugging the 'van at the
weekend.

to make me feel better my garage said they once ordered
a piece of plastic sheet, dont know what for except a
mitsi product and that was £600, the mind boggles.

WOW thats a lot of money You can get the whole set of silicone pipes for that price, I Have been working with
a manufacture to make up some full set to flog on flee bay for the 3lt patrols with S/steel inter pipe as well as Jubilee clips.

Did you try and source a 2nd hand pipe?

If not why:nenau:doh

There are a few nissan breakers out there, who could have taken less drinking vouchers off you than Nissan Turpin:lol

As long as it gets sorted:clap
