Next on my list of power upgrades is the turbo :thumb2
I bought the modded compressor and turbo last year  but following the awesome power boost from the LPG I need more air in to get any more power :sly
Soooo I'm on the hunt for a turbo to rebuild so I don't have to maroon my truck on the drive :augie
Does anyone know if there's any difference between the Td turbo and the T2 one?:nenau
Here's the two comp wheels for your delectation :sly compare and contrast :naughty

Detail of the extra size and fins on the new one, cant wait:naughty

Waitting for your full postal address :augie

:sly :naughty :D :thumbs

Well the one on the left is bigger (bigger inlet, bigger turbine) so should provide more air, but not always the case, Rick

It's actually same size turbo casing but with a bigger comp wheel and remachined innards, if you see what I mean:D
I understood it to allow an earlier boost at say 1800 rpm ish instead of the 2200 ish std. Then stuff more air in once spun up. Does that make sense to you boss?

Well not sure, if you are driving it with the original exhaust turbine I think it will not attain enough speed as the compressor will be working harder and the driver will not have enough leverage to keep up, if that makes sense, but I am only using logic here I am no turbo expert, Rick

Good point, well made  I hope perhaps the answer's not that clear cut, or I've bought a lemon

I've had the turbo housing back from the balancing chappie at last :clap

Spoke to the turbo mod guy and he assured me this mod will infact work :D especially as it's going straight out a 2 1/2" exhaust :sly
Started the rebuild and ofcourse I'd forgotten about all the sheared bolts :doh Ground them down, centre punched and drilled the buggers out. Then tapped the threads again ;)

This compressor housing is a little bigger than stock and a different casing without the Nissan mods to hold the waste gate on, so I've modded the housing for a new braket. Drilled and tapped two new holes and it's nearly done :thumb2

I just need to clean the turbine housing tomorrow and bolt this lot on :naughty

When you drilled them out did you do them the same diam. or slightly bigger? David.

Nope, drilled out smaller, 6.8 to be exact, that leaves enough material to tap again for the M8 bolts :thumb2

Turbo assembly now complete, look at my trumpet :p

Got it all refitted with no drama :D

It was all going so well but I just couldn't get the intercooler elbows to line up any bloody way, soooooooooooooo, off with the inlet manifold :doh Need to tweak that now

Hey ho, it'll better be worth it :lol

Is there anything you can do to the manifold to improve flow, ie polish, re-shape. When youv'e got it done you'll need a bigger rear view mirror to see all the Disco's you've left behind. David.

Never had a problem leaving discos behind :lol in the mud or the road :lol
In theory yes the whole thing could be done much better but I'm not going down that route  It needs a bloody good clean inside, it's full of years of oil and crud. A quick grind n polish of any hard shapes I find but the main job will be to put the intake collar onto the side.
Watch this space I know a man who's pretty damn good with ally :thumbs

Modified waste gate bracket fitted (and painted)

Here's the actuator in place now and guess what ?..................................I need to extend that now :doh

Getting closer though :thumbs
By the way, does anyone know the importance of all these heat sheilds ? :nenau

mines been left off for a couple of months know since having to remove turbo down pipe to tap and drill some studs out had no problems infact i had forgot id not put them back on until know:thumbs

all very clever, but if i even attempted to do that on the kitchen table my Mrs would kill me :(

I was told in no uncertain terms not to that again  ,\ at least not when she's in :lol

Got some time today to re-start work on the Black Pearl. Poor thing's been neglected for many months now :augie
So the inlet manifold has now been welded up and a new intake made on the side so the silicone bends can be fitted:sly
Here it is in place at last :D

I've also binned the weird mushroom vent valve thingy too with a nice big S/S bung :thumbs
Normal service is resumed :lol
