Hi guys am having a few problems on my maverick 2.7td in removing the turbo.

there is a bolt that i can not remove it is solid. i have tried everything is there a way to remove the manifold with the turbo on it?

The bolt that is a pain is located directly behind the turbo its self and i can only just fit a spanner on but no room to move it.

if there is a guide to removing to turbo or any one can advise i would be great-full thank you

Once you have dropped the downpipe (there isnt room to pull the elbow back far enough)

And wrestled with the oil drain tube, you can remove the turbo+ manifold as one unit.

If you can still run the engine -get it all nice and hot then quench the manifold nuts with cold water to release them. (unless you have oxy-acetelene torch)

kool will give it ago the i tried to remove the manifold earlier but i must of missed a bolt some were lol

Having the same problem here, can't get to that bloody nut ! Can't get the exhaust bolts off either, there's just nowhere to turn a spanner. Is it possible to remove the manifold/turbo/downpipe all in one ?

Right, that's got to be the stupidest place for a bolt ever.
I'm getting the airsaw out in the morning.

just had to take my turbo off to get rid of egr system on exhaust manifold.
after lots of strugling and knuckle loss;
the exhaust down pipe is attached to engine and turbo, i managed to remove two short bolts which clamped exhaust to engine, then undid the 5 nuts on the end of the turbo, nearest the downpipe, i was then able to get a spanner on the bottom right turbo nut, turbo slipped off, after i indid the oil out pipe! the able to get to last (hidden) manifold nut! not an easy job, looked at manual, very vague.

So how do you get to the manifold to head stud nut that is behind the turbo, Rick

quite simple rick :augie:augie:augie

there is a certain manifold to head stud and nut that is impossible to get to from either the top of the engine and the bottom of the engine due to the turbo covering it up.

the turbo has to be removed to get to this, no if's, no but's!

i took the end of turbo off, where downpipe to exhaust is, made easier/possible after finding clamp to engine, the complete section then moves out of way, leaves room to get to last/hard nut hold turbo to manifold, turbo oil and water pipes are tricky, but off it comes, i then needed manifold off, so an extra short socket on last manifold bolt, i gues now i know where bits are, probably about an hours job?
took me all yesterday afternoon though! ran out of daylight, so off out to finish rebuild now.

I never thought about splitting the turbo, i would always personally leave the turbo unit in tact as I have never split one open, perhaps I will have to try it your way next time lol

it is meant to be split at this point, i assume differnet end parts depending on car?
nice copper gasket an all!
the knack appears to be to undoo rear clamp which is on this part, then downpipe which is on a flexi can move to where you want, basicly out of the way.
gives you better access to the bottom right turbo bolt.

just test driven it, and all i can say is WOW!!!:lol
very good mod, lots of extra power, no smoke, zero, none.
will now test mpg over next few weeks.
