yep but just noticed mines a 14 pin plug found a link on diff lock site gives a faulf for "95" of Crankshaft Position Sensor so seem to be getting somewhere...what do you think and any one tell me where it is or have a piuc showing it .....

one of the the characteristics of CKPS failure is that it will have a tendency to misbehave more when the engine is good and hot, as in it will likely behave better when cold.
This is due to the magnet in the sensor loosing it's permeability when hot coupled with a loss in permeability at lower temperatures the CKPS sounds as though it is on the way out.
Probably best not to bother with a used sensor as a replacement as this will be a lottery, get a new one.

ta ray but its happened 5 times 4 off them ive only been driving 3-5 mins when its gone !!!! but who knows ,can you point me in its direction on the car and any idea on rough price ?

More usually the sensor is located on the front of the engine above the front crank pulley, but some are located at the rear by the flywheel. I believe it depends on the type of management system fitted, Bosch, Hitachi, Zexel... You will need to accurately identify it though as the sensors although functionally the same have differing fixings and connectors.
As for price I am not sure, but around 100~200 quid from what I seen others have said.
There are a couple of threads on here that will throw a bit more light on the issue, go search..... clivvy has been through the CKPS loops & hoops, look for some of his posts.

have cleared codes with clip and am going to see if i can get it to fail on way into work tonight.if i get same fault code with paper clip going to oreder a crankshaft position sensor.as the code i got was 95 i think its positioned at back of head in bell housing looking down on fly wheel...local EK brakes have qoutes 80 quid but can get my mate to get trade on that ...fingers crossed..spoke to nissan service manager he siad cant be that and i need to take it to him for him to use nissan code rereader at 65 + vat a read...not convinced he said might need to lengthen rod on turbo not convinced theres no "play" on that rod ...any thoughts ta peter

A Nissan (Consult II) code reader will give very little more information than you already have and at 65 quid it's well on the way to the cost of a new part!
The Nissan Consult code reader will read exactly the same stored fault codes as the MIL flashes are giving you, just in a much easier to see format. It is able to display dynamic data from some sensors but not the CKPS.

And the highly trained Nissan service manager said.....
"spoke to nissan service manager he siad cant be that and i need to take it to him for him to use nissan code rereader at 65 + vat a read.."

Well its either wiring fault or the ecu did u check wires from sensor to ecu and again remind me is Ur system Bosch or Hitachi.

bosch mate ...any pointers on checking wirirng ??? when i got car air con didnt work so took it to an auto electricain he found a break in a black and white wire and ran a new piece in..it went from main loom in engine bay at back of engine bay on the left and he ran it to near a plug near front left side of intercooler ??????????????

did you clear the codes before checking again ?

Going to clear codes after work. But before I went to work this morning I unplugged mad sensor and on drive to work it was fine going to leave it a while unplugged . If no more limp mode probs am I right in thinking that it must then be the mag sensor that's faulty ? It's a Bosch one and seems to be expensive :(

well no failures on way to work on the last 4 shifts so going to reconect maf sensor and try at week end and next wk on way to work .......hopefully fault will return ????????????? if it does return would you all agree that the maf sensor must be at fault ????

Seems like the MAF sensor is a major problem on these cars..........
I carry a spare, I'm going to measure the voltages at different RPM for reference and put on here... that way, its definitive, for my car anyway (T2 2.7, on X plate).
I've heard that nissan have brought out a modified MAF sensor, any truth in this?
