Filled with diesel

T2 starts runs rough then.dies will do so two or three times, then bstterybis to flat to start again.

Some.times. will run smooth with out dieing.

Im i wrong in thunking glowplugs?

Normally even if glow plugs are bad, once the engine has actually started, it will start to warm very quickly and run ok. Not saying is not the glow plugs and worth checking them first as easy check, but also look for fuel starvation/air in system.

Crankshaft position sensor perhaps?

I'm Assuming theres no fault codes logged?

If you've just filled up could there be something in the fuel, have you removed filler cap and had a sniff:eek:. It's not unknown for garage to fill wrong tanks so customers misfuel.

Cps was changed.not so long ago.

Will sniff and check for air later

Tea first.

Sounds like a surefire fuel starvation problem right there.

If you are still running with the standard fuel filter setup, what's the primer plunger doing when the engine is running?

Wonder if the main filter could be partly blocked, had this on mine & it didn't want to rev past 2.5K are you still running a mix of veg ?

If you have a drain filter on ya primer pump, check to see if you have any water in it.

change fuel filter use diesel only and not supermarket crap good luck :thumbs

If the plunger is depressed when you have the engine running its fuel starvation!!!

I had same problem on my first T 2 this is a old post below

I noticed a diesel leak at the back looks like a pipe as corroded not sure which one they is two, thinking about cutting back the steel pipe and replacing with rubber or plastic only about 6 or 7 inches what size is the steel fuel pipe ???I want to slide pipe over the pipe and jubile clip the rubber pipe on, hoping this works do not what to change full length

The leaking is always near wheel arch could be just pin hole wet not dripping.

PS This started with a small pin hole first and got to be a bigger Hole

One pipe 8mm the other is 6mm on diesel lines

Glen

Did the problems startimmediately after filling up? If so I suspect a few things.

1: dodgy fuel. Where did you fill up? :nenau perhaps high water content? :nenau

2: filling up with neat diesel has pulled some veggie mess through and has gotten stuck somewhere.

3: fuel starvation, I guess this is the same as number 2 really, check the black plunger on the fuel filter, fire up terrano with bonnet open, if someone can hold throttle pedal whilst you watch the plunger all the better :thumb2 and I believe when stationary in neutral no more than 1500rpm as the ecu shuts off fuel or so I'm told :nenau (someone confirm please)

Does the problem go away when warm? this would then indicate glow plugs or glow plug relay, or some other symptom not related to fuel.

Keep us posted!

I suspect the problem ( or part of it anyway ) stems from the fact he was using svo ....... but I know nuffin so ignore me

ok :lol :thumbs

+1 on this :p :clap

Nah just kidding Briggie, but I know veggie can take a while to exit the system to restore power. I have recently bought this from good personal review http://reviews.halfords.com/4028/811125/reviews.htm

To mix in with my current 50/50 mix, and it's actually making a difference. There are so many to choose from, this bottle will last you about 8 full tanks worth. :thumb2

Again we need to diagnose if it is fuel related or starting related, with a full tank of diesel the remnants of veggie would not give a cold start issue for sure :thumb2

I started on -4 the other day on a 50/50 mix, screen wash bottle was a block of ice, engine very cold, so it wont be that. I suspect either blockage, air leak or glow plug/relay issue.

regarding fuel leaks and arch, which one please.

some of issues sound like mine not wanting to rev, but once warm
you'd not know had issue.

latest for me was at -2 on way to work in a mile had to shut down and
restart as pedal not giving any revs.

last night left work to visit Jims Terrano to borrow a pedal assembly (TSP version)
and failed me 4 times in works car park, then would rev but not past 1500 so
let it warm up, then off then on and was fine for 60 mile dash up M1.

I thinking try pedal swap then take to a Bosch agent, ?

My fuel pipes are weeping too, have done for months. Had no issues other than a bit rough running first few seconds but I also think plugs need changing too.

I would stick that pedal assembly on and run it for a few weeks to see if it happens rather than paying out for a bosche agent. From what you said after a month or so you'll know if the pedal has resolved your issue.

I still think Zippys issue is fuel related and maybe from the new fuel too.

we are still running at 50/50 due to the recent cold snap. i have re-routed my fuel pipe to warm the mix up but no issues what so ever cold starting must get a photo done and uploaded here, yes it only warms the fuel up once the engine is warm but nothing can warm the cold fuel in the pump or injector pipes but nice warm fuel supplied to the filter all helps supply nice thinnned out mix to the pump.

i did have a rethink and changed the way i did it before i just rerouted the fuel pipe wrapped it around the rad top hose several times and wrapped insulator around that il take a photo tomorrow and fuel temp readings to.

i do think your getting air lock/ fuel starvation tho

This issue you mention here is definately unrelated, I had this a while back on several occasions, throttle becomes unresponsive, idle is sweet as a nut but only revs to 1500ish. Turn off and on, all back to normal. :thumb2

This caused me issues 6 times on the way to work one morning :doh

Hasn't misbehaved since a diagnosis at Ricks place where I full throttled up hill heavily :thumb2

sorry to have hijacked thread ;)

funny today massive thaw snow gone and 10 degrees what change, and truck fine
too, going to try pedal, just cynic in me prepping for next issue....

So Alex are you saying gave it a good thrash, in someway cleared itself out?
