Hi

Hoping someone may be able to advise the possible issue that is causing my 2004 Terrano 3.0 gearbox to become quite a pain to put into gear in the warmer weather, but now its getting colder it is a bit easier. Plus even though I put the clutch right down as far as it will go, I sometimes find getting back into first gear just before I stop at a junction, it crunches.

It was a bit a of nuisance when I was pulling the trailer a little while back :(

Thanks

Kathy

TBH havent got a clue!! Bought the car in May and being a girl, I didn't ask that question. Shall I get the oil changed out.. Got a friend that could do that for me :)

Always a good idea to change all oil, if you are unsure of it's age.

Also, worth checking the operation of the clutch, as maybe the clutch release arm isn't moving the full amount corresponding to the clutch pedal.
There could be air in the system, or the clutch damper pipe is leaking, now this is a mod that Nissan did to prevent clutch judder, and was a pipe that ran from the clutch all the way to over the rear axle. Often the pipe leaked at the rear of the vehicle. Also the flexi pipe to the slave cylinder can balloon out, thus not allowing all the fluid to activate the slave cylinder.
Your mechanic will understand this.
Hope it helps,
Rustic

I read that not realising that you were an actual girl :lol :augie

Change the oil in the box deffo, not sure what grade it is for the 3ltr box, it may be the same as the 2.7ltr box which is 80w90 GL4 don't use GL5 on these as there is something in it that causes wear on some of the components in our boxes

We could be Terrano Buddies look :D

As Rustic says check out the hydraulics, 90% sure this will be your problem, Rick

Oooooh and you are a girl in the south east you could pop in and see me, I can fix it for you, Rick

Rick is the "Bob the builder" of these trucks, if he can't fix it... no one can.:thumb2:thumb2

Yeah :) I always keeps an eye out for other Terrano's. About a couple of years ago I passed another green Terrano (used to have a green 2.7 I had before) and the driver waved! I was quite surprised and waved back but wasn't sure they saw me as it was a bit delayed!

Well I think I may have mislead you Rick... more like middle aged! If it was the hydraulics, is that something you can check fairly easily as in I could drive over and wait?

If you get your mechanic mate to do the oil, as stated, he MUST use GL4 grade oil, not GL5

Cheers Firebobby, I would buy the oil myself and get my friend to change it for me.

yes no problem, Rick

Yep Ricks a top bloke.

Two things, firstly dont make no difference that you are a girl. You are just as equal as the rest of us.
Secondly, just read your post about putting in to first gear before you've stopped. Have I read that correct because that isnt a good idea in any car really. Wait until its stopped before sticking it into first. Appologies if i have mis read your post.

If you are not sure about its history get all the oils replaced and give the truck a treat. Rear diff oil needs changing from time to time too.

Next we need a pic of your truck:thumb2

I had the same kind of problem about a week after i got my mav, in my case it was the clutch slave cylinder changed it along with the master, blanked off the damper as it broke anyway, refill & bleed properly, good as gold :thumbs

I must admit mine doesent like doing this (even at 5mph) sometimes I am too slow for second gear but know that first wont engage, so I sip second a smidge

Mine drops into 1st gear no probs if i'm rolling along at about 2-3MPH at a stand still i've found the syncro's don't always line up the worst is reverse gear & have to select 2nd then go to reverse if it doesn't engage 1st time otherwise it grinds:doh both of the T2's i've had have been the same:augie

yep about right, reverse is not "syncro'd" it is just a dog gear, and often hits head on, so need to spin it to get it into a better position, Rick
