Hi guys , does anyone know much about the Trooper 3.1 engine ?:nenau
There's one maybe available locally and it looks very very similar to the T2 lump.
Just wondering if it's transplantable easily and tunable :sly
Saw one out on a pay n play day and it had so much grunt, I like :naughty

ive got a izuzu bighorn with the 3.1 td intercooler lump in , and i can confirm it has indeed a lot of grunt :naughty

I have had a few of them and to be honest I have never been very impressed. As a big lazy car (a very jag like drive) they were OK but I always expect more from the 3.1 engine than it ever delivered :nenau

Might just be the way its geared Pete - AFAIK it only churns out around 110-112 bhp in standard form....

Yeh I wasted a few hours on forums various last night :doh
Limp as a wet rag  Meant to be easily tweaked etc but gearing could well be in it's favour off road anyway.
I'm feeling better today :D Putting a bigger turbo on mine and then need to quiz Timbo on his big nozzles :naughty

Bigger turbo= longer spooling /lag? Especially on these lumps, or so people have told me.
I have a mint volvo t4 turbo that was going to go on but was put of by various articles ect.

It would be nice if anyone on here has done this deed successfully, might just have another look.

I still have a hankering, but not the facilities, to stick a LWB LR body on one of these just for a larf!

Why such a difference between the models? 156 bhp compared to 113 surely there is something wrong with these figures

are we confusing the 3.1 and the newer 3.0 here? the latter was very powerful but self destructed (bad injectors by CAT?).

the newer 3.0 was a completely different engine, the 3.1 is a version of the old 2.8. The 2.8 trooper was a much better vehicle, I had a couple and loved them but they slowly turn to rust :(

The 3.0 16v 4jx1 is the nightmare motor. Avoid at all costs! The catepillar 'pumpe duse' type unit injector set up is an incredibly good system, just the execution of it was beyond words in this application!

The 3.0 4jj1 is the current offereing in the Rodeo etc and is fine.
