Hello guys :thumb2

Critical question here. My speedo cable in the transfer box is leaking so i will change the oil in the transfer box. Have no idea what is in it. I got some Mobil Mobilube SHC1 but the specs/API says GL4/GL5/TM-1. Can i use this oil? GL5 should net be good for the copper in the bearings i have read :bow

Cheers!

I think it is this..Transferbox: EP80W-90 GL-4

Thanks :) 75/90 should be better in colder climate i have read here. The maybe strange thing with the oil i got is that is says both GL4 and GL5 and GL5 should be bad for the bearings. Confused LOL

Cheers

The workshop manual say you can fill either dexron AT oil or "normal" gear oil in the transfer. Just don't mix them:) I'm still a bit nervous about the GL4 and GL5 specs appear in the same oil, but the dealer looked in the Nissan catalogue and came up with this oil.

Thanks for your time and effort guys!

To be honest, I only fill my truck with GL4, I have seen the GL4/5 stuff, but I don't trust it. End of the day, if you box gets ruined, the oil company don't give a fook :nenau

it should be auto transmission fluid in the transfer box, the reason for this is one it is seldom used on a road going motor and two it was specified as a get round of the cold weather front prop turning due to oil drag and engaging the front hubs, this is not so important on the models with fixed hubs, and in the transfer box you can use GL4 or GL5 as it is the syncro rings in the main gearbox that suffer with GL 5, Rick

Thanks for the answer Rick. Allow me to ask a question here:) It looks to me that in your text you start with saying AT oil in the transfer box and in the end you write that i can use both GL4 and GL5 in the transfer box?

Cheers!
