Ok so im considering changing the CV boots on my terrano which got me thinking about tools for the job. What tools do i need?
This also got me thinking about a general tool list that it would be handy to have in tha garage as a 4x4 owner.
Please could you guys give me some ideas for the tools for changing the boots and also if youve got time maybe a list of useful general 4x4 tools also.

Cheers

A high-lift trolley jack and some substantial axle stands are a pretty good start!

dont forget a heeeuge scaffold poll for getting that hub nut off.

Good quality 1/2" socket set, and a torque wrench. With a 6mm AF allen key socket for the Auto hub bolts, using a torque wrench.
Allen keys, angle grinder and or nut splitter.
Tea, or cofee, milk and sugar if required, take a break and don't rush any job.

A sheet of cardboard, tarpauline, or something to catch any oil or small parts that drop out. You don't want any bits dropping in the dirt, or between 2 flagstones...:doh

The most important thing.......
Membership of this club, so you can get a quick response if you get stuck. :thumb2

Oh if you need to do any wiring, then a good quality crimp tool, you could bodge it and use soldered joints but not as reliable :augie:augie

Thanks for the ideas gents, much appreciated.

Maybe we could have a seperate thread on this? :augie

no need, just twist the wires together and wrap with tape - sorted :thumbs

Actually in a magazine in the 70's I think it was something like "Practical Mechanics" there was a free gift, that was melt with a match solder, you twisted the wires together then wrapped the thin solder tape around it, then used a match to heat it up, perfect solder joint for you there Plank...:augie

:lol

Does anyone else remember this ?

yeah I found some in my grandads old stuff, was crap.
