You're right about "max" pull on first layer etc, but there's still more than enough layer on layer :clapThey do have four advantages over a fixed vehicle winch in that they
1) Can be used at either end of the vehicle. SO CAN A FIXED WINCH
2) They don't run the battery flat. NEVER FLATTENED MY BATTERY WINCHING
3) Can be used sideways to keep the vehicle slipping off the track. EVEN EASIER WITH FIXED WINCH
4) Can be used for pulling tree trunks and large rocks clear of the track. SO CAN FIXED ONE WITH SNATCH BLOCKS
Yes, they are slow but maximum pull is always available unlike a 12V winch where the maximum pull is only available with the wire on the first layer of the winch drum.
electric winch on the front.
Don't go anywhere without a 2nd vehicle and if it's a challenge make sure the 2nd vehicle also has a winch. But most lanes I can't see you needing winches.
You can also use a hi-lift jack as a winch.
And these look like a bargain !!
