The majority of driving have seen recently i would suggest;

1. Get the revs to at least half throttle, mybe more, say 3500-3750 in a diesel and 5-5500+ in a petrol

2. Depress clutch, engage 1st gear, let clutch out and increase revs as the clutch bites.

3. Once you have the wheels in motion, press the accelerator firmly into the floor carpet and keep it there. The rev limiter needs to be tested now and then.

4. Start turning the steering from side to side whilst displaying an expression similar to what you might have were you to catch a whiff of a fart in a busy elevator.

5. Start repeatedly saying "come on" whilst blipping the throttle on and off.

6. Phone the AA.

7. Phone the RAC when you realise yiou arent an AA member.

8. Phone ASDA and ask if they can deliver your shopping as you cant get out to them with your car.

Other hints and tips are to make sure you are dressed for a pleasant June day, try to shy away from sturdy or warm footwear, Ugg boots or a pair of those nice gay looking baseball boots that seem to be "all the rage" these days will stand you in much better stead. In a similar vein your zip up hoody and T-shirt will provide better cold insulation than a heavy wind/waterproof coat. Dont worry about a hat or scarf, they'll mess your hair up.

Also make sure you have lost the screw in towing eye for your vehicle of choice, and it is imperative, that when someone stops to help you/tow you out, be sure to do nothing to help them whilst asking them if they are going to be long as you want to be home for the weakest link....

You forgot to mention that once you've melted the snow n ice from under your spinning wheels and actually got going, you MUST slam on the brakes down hill for best J turn attempts:D
 
Followed one tonight for miles on a clear ,gritted road travelling at 15 mph but slowing to 10 mph for corners and slight hills.

I love overtaking them and watching their faces as I sail past - they crap themselves half the time. STAY INDOORS!!!!!:)
 
Best tip for snow driving that I can give anyone is buy a Terrano:thumb2

Take it very easy untill you come to a downhill slope with a 'T' junction at the bottom
Let your speed steadily increase down the slope then at the last minute test the ABS and slam on the brakes

Slide the rest of the way home to save fuel and hope there is nothing in the way

He got tipped nicely by another 4x4 and ended up parked in someones front garden

We both told him to phone for help ----------- I wasn't going to waste fuel pulling him out
 
LOL! Drove into work at last today....most of the roads haven't been touched....M40 was clear but dual carriageways are all one lane only (the outisde lane being just for ME!) and the A roads are just packed snow/ice, not even ploughed, never mind gritted.

Kids cars are frozen solid, yet the old Terrano carries on as if nothings happened (probably helped by the 95Ah/830 cranking amps new battery I had to flash out for earlier in the week:doh)....

What the hell are we paying council tax for, apart from feeding their fat pension pots (where 20% of your CT goes, don't start me on that one...)???
 
Must say it is a beautiful thing to hop into the T2 at 6.30 am at -6 or -7 turn the key and hear the heavy diesel engine roar into life without a cough. T2 has been exceptional in the snow and ice. Interesting experience having it in Hi4wd and travelling on ice at about 40 mph and car going in more or less straight line although all wheels seem to be going their own way.

You forgot the basics :augie

1.Get up the same time as you would in the summer leaving you 10 mins to do your 30 mile trip in a rush...

2.Rush out to your car & as you slide into it clear a 5" square with your hand on the front window screen...

3.Start it up & reverse out onto a busy road with no vision due to all the windows being covered in snow...

4.Then carefully thrash the car whilst still being freezing cold down the road oblivious to the carnage you caused by reversing into the path of oncoming traffic that took evasive action to miss you resulting in a crash...

5.Your now on your way with your foot to the floor,very poor vision & sliding all over the place...

6.Once on the motorway you notice the outside lane is clear of traffic...

7.So you then speed down the slip road across the inside & middle lanes causing yet more vehicles to take evasive action...

7.Now you are thrashing along in the outside lane sliding all over the place wondering why nobody's on it...

8.Your exit appears & as before you pull across causing...yes more evasive action by other drivers & keep your foot hard down all the way to the roundabout...

9.They cant stop & slide across the roundabout & wonder why they are now stuck & crashed on top of it...& why passer buys are waving & shouting abuse at you.?

& you have to love the twats that pour a kettle over there window screen & wonder why its just cracked...

I bet the 'get rid of 4x4's' brigade wish they had one now!
I don't want to appear smug when my old T11 ploughs on through everything, well ok, I am!
 
call me mean but im not helping any 2bys. unless friends/family.

got to think of liability and cost of fuel/parts.

great listening to radio folks appealing for a kind 4x4 to take them
to a wedding or funeral. and soft twats offering to help same
nimby anti 4wd brigaders.

my troll was less than 5 grand as was t2 before it conscious choice
to buy could have spent more on some useless sports saloon.

oh and thinking of ringing radio and asking if any of these sporty
numbers will be free for a blast round donnington park in spring
what are my chances....
 
Not only do the drivers only clear a small patch of snow from the windscreen, but they decide to keep the snow on their lights, so you have to guess what they are going to do next.:nenau
I can see a slight advantage of not clearing the number plate, but I don't think excessive speed is a real issue this weather.
What about the clowns that keep the snow on their roofs, only to wonder why they can't see through the front windscreen when the try to brake and all the snow slides down their windscreen ...
Or the people who don't de-ice their wipers and leave bits of rubber on the screen when they first use them...:lol

Having owned a range rover classic for a long time and last year bought a T2, I can honestly say that in direct comparison, the T2 is literally head and shoulders over it...........

The LSD in the back axle is worth its weight in gold and the ability to lock the transmission, that just leaves landrovers standing as proved recently in the snow. Switching between 2 and 4wd on the move is simple, and the way it doesn't lose grip....... excellent!

The tyres I have are standard mud and snow, nothing special, the ride comfort although not as good as the rangie, is far more positive without that wallowing around on corners...

My T2 has been even been used to ferry police to jobs this week (as part of 4x4 response) tow an ambulance up a steep hill on ice, take an arrestee to jail, deliver officers to remote places on untreated roads with at least 6" of snow and it hasn't missed a beat.

As for the heated leather seats.......... superb :)

So would I go back to a landrover, even with the glitzy electronics, locking wheels etc etc etc........ the answer is an emphatic NO !
 
I'll agree with the heated seats, when I got the jeep i sort grunted "oh right" when they were pointed out to me.

During the recent weather :thumb2:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2 wouldnt be without them.
