right I see, well, if it works for you, then thats the road i'll have to go down. how do you test a fuel pump, to see if its working right?

not got a clue how to test fuel pump but as ive tried everything else this is the next thing and i have a spare 1 to try thats of a good running engine lets hope it cures it
will updated when ive fitted it

well guys diesel pump fitted and shes purring like a kitten :thumb2

very straight forward job if your mechanically minded and handy with spanners follow download for timing its easy to do in fact easiest car ive timed up as its all cogs no chains or belts
take injectors out make turning engine easier as no compression :thumb2

a touch over my head derek, if it requires timing etc :( still, im not certain my issue is the pump, because the weird idle thing isnt all the time, is intermittent and is very slight-closest example i can give (because i can replicate the issue) is like trying to wind up the electric passenger window when its already up-the drain on power shows as a slight drop in revs, then returns to normal when you let go of the button. very odd.

from wot your saying id leave alone till it gets worse mine was bad it was constantly surging 600 800 600 800 600 800 and loads ov smoke

well just sat and worked out wot my maverick owes me including all parts and engine ive brought to take bits off to get it to run right and grand total is £818 which is a bloody good bargain as previous owner had new exhaust starter battery and glow plugs fitted aswell:lol

yeah your probably right Derek. Im going to do the simple safe stuff, such as the egr and banjo filter if i have one, because if i could sort this id like to, but perhaps my problem isnt the same as yours it seems, certianly no smoke and surging to that degree,,,! very glad youre sorted though :thumbs

Hi fellars this smoke

I have a 1998 2.7td maverick lwb. I have had the injectors out and calibrated refitted also new maf and it goes good .BUT when i stop at tickover it goes lumpy and have white smoke ,have you had this too

not quite mate, my issue was very VERY small tick over issue, as if you tap the accelerator, its random, and doesnt alwasy happen. when it does, no smoke. i only ever get a puff of black smoke when i wack the accelerator down first time from tick over, then after that nothing.

here is a very handy guide ive used:

http://www.uniteddiesel.co.uk/diesel-engine-smoke.php

the chart should help you with clues of what to check next.

Hi all,

I had low tickover problem it was ranging from 500- 800 rpm so i adjusted the pot under the accelerator pedal by slackening two screws and turning it slightly, i think i got the info from here or the workshop downloads, you have to be a contortionist to do it, but it's possible.
