saturday 8/12/07 Derbyshire green lanes

Hello.
well as Dinky said what a day snow rain MUD what more could we have asked for .
Dinky them Berger's were a real treat .thank you .
we set of from Bamford at 9.40. drove to leaside road .me leading Big G in the middle and Dinky on the back door, it had a lot of water coming down caused a few washouts ,we managed them all no problem.
Them patrols are wide though, well done Gorden good bit of driving there m8. next Hurst clough lane more washouts and leaves everywhere ,said hello to my ROCK. and rolled over it no trouble . :p
we then drove the beginners day route starting with Dirk low rake ,pin dale , snow started to fall as we went up Brough lane flakes as big as 50 p piece's  big puddles of water to splash through :p
took a few photographs. Bret-ton, Sir William Hill and Plague lane got us to eyam, for an early dinner 11.30 and Dinky got the burgers on all under an umbrella. well done mate.
just after 12.00 we were heading of again Tideswell lane this time went to wrong end so did only thing we could do in the circumstances ,
drove it turned around and drove it again :p loads of very big puddles to drive very carefully  through.i think we managed to get the water over the stone walls both ways. .
Short and Water lanes and Pennine Bridleway ,Monksdale and Long Lane were all flooded .Water flowing along them in mini rivers. had to keep an eye out for washouts .
Bull Tor Lane , water had cut deep cuts into it we stopped at the top and had a coffee Ellie had her picture taken and then fell in a rut silly dog, covered in MUD. .we stopped on the bridge at Monsal Dale to feed the trout but there was to much water running which had put them of the feed  this is after me dragging Big G and the boys out of there patrol to see the fish being fed. SORRY guys. .
Hassop common came next even Deeper puddles ,more photos. then onto Houndkirk Moore what a difference fog rain sleet a track that was more like a river all good fun, then onto Lady Cannings Plantation. set off got stuck backed of had a bit of a run at it and up she went as this was happening Dinky calls out over the CB ."GUSIFYESHUVIT.
He was right next came a steady rock crawl threading our way between the biggest of the rocks and driving up the side slopes Sheila calling me names when she slid down the seat and sat on the handbrake
we finished  the lane sheila got out to open the last gate of the day. I drove through it and there before me was a big hole about 2ft deep shear sided and full of water ,so gunned it a bit and jumped over it DUKES OF HAZZARD STYLE. gust banged the tow ball :p
next came Gordon in the patrol took the same line and just rubbed his tow bar , then JJ and Dinky JJ tried to put one wheel on the banking
at the side rather than risk getting stuck in the long wheel base terrano.
GUESS WHAT HAPPENED NEXT.
A quick tow later and he was clear of the mud well done Gorden .
didn't even use 4 wheel drive .
We set of for Cam Heights Burbage to complete the course we drove along and WHOOOSH a great big puddle on the tarmac road cleaned all the mud of the trucks .
When we parked up Dinky said the water was deep at the cattle crossing was`nt it we hit it at 40mph :p must of been like driving into a river .well it washed our trucks so well we all went thou it again. on the way home.
We finished just after 4pm so a good time considering the weather conditions and extra lanes we did.
SO DONT FORGET TO COME ALONG ON THE 30TH DECEMBER
AND ENJOY THE DAYS LANING .
There may be some more places available so get your names down.

Hi Ian and John thanks for a good day out, the boys enjoyed it as well. The burgers were lovely at lunch john. I only took two photos and have put them in the gallery, got a bit of vidioing but the camera is a bit old to connect to my computer so i will put it on a disc and send it to you Ian and you may be able to put it on the site. Looking forward to the 30th.
Big G

Glad you had a good time, sorry i couldn't talk much on the phone I was holding the umbrella over the welder so Doodlebug who was laid in the freezing rain could try to arc weld my rock sliders. We gave up in the end due to little shocks coming along the wire 8O 8O

Thought about you and the mud, I had the feeling that Pennine and Monksdale would be muddy. Just think what Bull Tor would have been like if they hadn't resurfaced it

Not that I want to rush Christmas you understand, but roll on 30th Dec so we can play in the mud again 8)

Cameraman That is a ideal route for first timers, really enjoyed it overall a good mixture. Well planned .Dinky

So having driven it more recently than I, this is a genuine question, do you think we should miss out the hole at the end of Lady Cannings? We could always go straight forward to the other end of the lane and make it easier.

I don't want begginners getting stuck or doing damage, especially as that hole is close to a fast main road and if a group was sat on the road waiting for the last truck to be pulled free. I'm thinking of overall saftey here.

Comments from any of you three who drove it yesterday appreciated.

Even the best laid plans are subject to change

Thanks.

Quick edit: May have a look myself as we're going out today for a pub lunch.

YES MISS IT OUT JJ went to one side to miss itas towbar still on car and got bogged down in gunk .Had to be pulled free,it was just a quamire with the amount of rain.We went to give Gordon more off road.Apart from that a good route.John

hi andy .
i agree with john aka DINKY it is a real lwb trapper.
the start of l.c.p. is a bit advanced, also the amount of boulders you have to squeeze past CAN GIVE PUNCTURED TYRES ask our resident clown. not a good belated christmas present.
better go the other way me thinks.
other than that a cracking begginers route .
JUST ENOUGH TO GIVE THEM THE IDEA AND WANTING TO COME BACK FOR MORE. :p :p :p :p :p :p

It would be a lot safer for a group to finish on houndkirk in the car park. There is a lot more room.Dinky

Thanks guys, input from others is always valid, thats the way we learn

So finish at Houndkirk car park it is then, no probs, I'll just announce it on day at the briefing.

Been out today for a little play, some fantastic puddles about now  but have to be carefull as not cut arches back yet so tyres still rubbing a touch.
