Ok. I'm outside making the most of the sun and cleaning the engine. And thought about the egr valve.

:) Does it make much of a differance when removed?

:) are thay hard to remove?

:) will it still be road leagle and pass a mot?

:) where is it? Is it the round box at the back of the engine with a pipe from the air filter going in to it??? I remember somone saying that's it but im not 100% sure

:) how do you remove them?

It's a 2.7td

Thanks

I`m off out to see if i can do the same :)
if i manage i will get back to you, had a look a couple of weeks ago and not sure of the location myself, i`ll just pull a few bits off and hope for the best :)
Oops sorry mines a TDI

Tdi? might be in the same place:nenau

same place i think, some TDis have them, other dont. By all account, it will improveexisting running issues, black smoke issues, poor acceleration etc and give better MPG. As far as I can tell, its a win win mod.

i have half done mine, just blocked off one end of the egr pipe with a small cylinder type shelf holder (pipe fits perfectly)

yes its the thing at the back of the rocker cover usually.

Properly blocked as per the download it should actually benefit the engine a bit but you'll be polluting the little birdies! LOL :lol

I removed the air/suction pipe to mine completely from the little solonid valves.
then took the gasket out between the pipe from turbo side (you know what i mean) and the EGR valve, then drew round it on a thin sheet off ally, this way i could make an exact blanking plate/gasket and refitted it all with said plate in place.
No problems from the little blighter since :thumb2

the answer from NITROX is the way to go, cut a solid gasket and fit it, that way you can leave all the other bits in place so at MOT time they cannot tell it is not working/blanked off, Rick

Blimey. Are the mot tests going in the bonnet as well now ?

Well I have to be honest and say I do not really know, but if they see a vac pipe to say EGR valve blanked off, then the vehicle is not as the manufacturers designed it and so could be a fail point, as it will effect emissions, and as our road tax is based on emissions I would imagine it will have a bearing, but I may be corrected, Rick

Ah emissions, sore point that. I run on bio and lpg and have virtually none :thumbs
However, why do I have to pay tax for no emissions ? grrrr

Cheers!:D:bow make any differance? You got any pics?

to be honest i dont know IF its making much difference to to my mind it has to be making some.
I did this on my mk3 mondeo though and that DID make a huge difference.

I also remove the crankcase breather from the air inlet too and just fed a pipe down inner wing, this i dont think did much either as theres no oil in new pipe after 4k of miles driven so i dont think its breathing to heavy even when towing.

sorry but im a bit of a failure when it comes to pics..................

I do not know the exact way to do it but I delivered a Smart for 2 to a firm in London who are within the congestion charge zone. We had an aftermarket LPG conversion fitted by an authorised conversion firm in Castle Donnington. In London they were able to have it classified as a dual fuel vehicle and exempt it from the congestion charge. The VEL was only £35 a year anyway so it was the congestion charge they wanted to avoid as they drove in and out of it every day.

Just a thought for anyone in the London area ?

Fitted to what vehicle?

I guess that would depend on what state the EGR valve is in. If it is stuck closed, it will not make any difference. If it is operating normally, the experience of the Aussie lads who routinely do this to Patrols suggests that it will increase peak turbo boost pressure by 4-6psi. On a ZD30, that often results in an overboost error if adjustments to the VNT stop screw are not made - but on yours??

will it still be road leagle and pass a mot?

No and probably in that order (providing, of course, that it would have passed the MOT without the mod). Smoke opacity tends to improve, I believe - but I don't think the mod is legal in most countries. Whether it will be spotted is another matter entirely ........

If you take out the EGR, you need to take out the cat as well.

You will get better economy, better performance etc as the engine can 'breathe' as it were.

up to 94 you can leave it off, after that, it will need putting back together for mot.

Cat on a TD?
