isuzu

I had a frontera with a isuzu based engine, no cam belt - bonus

i immersed it in water up to the windscreen
flopped it on its side in the devils punch bowl - still kept going

loved that motor but got offered a deal on a 3.9 ES disco - that i ended up giving away with 11 month MOT and 3 months tax(on 1 condition - that it never darkens my door again)

I like the isuzu's but generally out of my price range as were the vauxhall monterey

Kbeki - u enjoy it mate what ever flicks your switch

@ the end of the day it depends how & what angle the person is coming from when commenting... On Road... Off Road... Both... Towing...

This is my break down... (factory fitted diesels)

Defender 90 is the best off roader FACT

Nissan Patrol & Toyota Landcruiser for Green Laning & Over Landing (European)

Terrano / Maverick SWB is the best of the Japs closely followed by the Pajeros / Shoguns

Most 90's seem to need lockers where as the Nissans dont...

From standard, this in my eyes is what you need to do to make them a good all rounder...

90 :- 2" Body & Chassis lift, mud tyres & lockers

Terrano :- 2" Chassis lift, mud tyres

DISCO :- FRONT & REAR WINCH AS IT ALWAYS GETS STUCK OR BREAKS DOWN :augie :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

i think the 90 would be hard pressed to beat a jeep off road
no not the cherry lol

tbh i cant see any difference to the part time 4x4's offered by the japs only the person behind the wheel

they all pretty much have the same type of running gear

what difference is their apart from the engine ? the problem is the japs have the ifs and that is less than worthless off road but on the road is great addition

disagree with the mods on that one the 90 dont need a 2" lift to go where a t2 will go

i have a mate with a 2010 90 swb with diff lock and it is alot taller than the t2 standard

oh and the best off roader is a minimog :lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

tell me about it we saw a huge one on our last outing with the response team

tyres were half the height of the trooper lol and had a sodding great winch on it :thumb2:thumb2

There the nuts mate & do go anywhere :thumbs
They only have winches to recover everybody else :thumbs
The 1 at Kirton Off Road Centre can do pretty much the whole site :bow

Kbekl -According to the stats site you posted in the 'other thread' the terrrano and your Izuzu have the same ground clearance!

And on a eight bridge i bet yours is more than a 100k heavier than mine

for what it's worth i loike troopers, i have owned several. The one let down they had (at tthe time) was the lack of an rear LSD on virtualy all, some did have it but not many.

Other than taht the 3.1 is just too big and cumbersome for what i used my t2 for and a daily basis. I only got into the 'tit for tat' as it seeemed that every thread was getting bogged down in how lovely troopers are. I don't like all this comparing 'mine's bigger than yours' it's silly, and the best that can come out of an acctual contest is that no one gets hurt :thumb2

But mine is still quicker :augie :lol

odd i know its not alot but mine is 210mm and the t2 tdi is 195mm :nenau

defo more diff clearance tho with the trooper coming with 245/75/16 tyres as standard and the mav/t2 235/75/16 :augie

ok i will race you first one to 105mph wins (satnav speed):augie:augie:lol:lol:lol:lol

i still maintain that the horn is quicker with more power and torq plus the slightly wider tyre means more road contact :augie

oddly i havnt come across a trooper with out lsd i know they do have a few that didnt opt for it :nenau

in real life mate i dont do mine s bigger than yours, in a forum based situation it is just a bit of fun :thumbs

unless it is a reliability then i will rip a landy owner, most of the members of my response team have landy's it is fun when they question your ability to go off road when you come back with "at least mine will go home under its own power" remark :lol:lol

90% of off road driving is the person behind the wheel and the 10% left is if you have 4wd, even the mighty t2 is pap when trying to off road in 2wd :lol i know i have been their :doh

you can have the best car in the world and it doesnt mean anything , its down to the driver ..... if bighorns are so good will someone explain to me why everyone doesnt have one ? .. and why all the other manufacturers of 4wd vehicles havent gone bust due to the amazing popularity of the isuzu trooper/bighorn ?:nenau

just to add somthing

why in the off road world of mods is the t2 not consired worthy world wise with mod's ??

i find that confusing as you can pick up all sorts for the trooper and their is less of them arround than the t2

i am not saying it isnt but the shops are ie safari snorkels, even nissan dont get a say in the aussie lockers side of things

pete come on if we take that attitude then why isnt the world swamped with t2's as that is the best off roader in the world when it come to part time 4x4's

the truth to that question is the world is a diverse place and that mean every one differs in their taste of motors also fiances dictate what we can all have

if they were free and had fee servicing you would have a range rover for day to day things and a play toy of your choice

i cant say the trooper is the best car as it isnt and neither is the t2 the 2 cars are pretty much on par with each other both have faults and both have good things about them

i dont actually think the t2 has won anything for its off road ability has it :nenau

Who gives a $hit :nenau
I dont :augie :lol
If the Terrano had the " off the shelf hop ups " like the green ovals & Vitaras then it would be the best :nenau  :nenau NO...
We own what we like & is in our budget...

My ideal all purpose 4x4 would be the non inter cooled terrano lump in a defender 90 with the comforts of a Shogun  That would be perfect for me :D

But would it be the best :nenau

So we've gone round in a circle you see :doh

So :augie

Who gives a $hit :nenau
I dont :augie :lol

Thers a lot of modding goes on in OZ, and perhaps the bits that aren't made are because they aren't needed, why fix it if it aint broke?

have you noitced how many mods are available for the cars than need the most modding? :naughty

but whenever we talk about on road ability you talk about off road, when we talk about off road ability as standard you tsalk about mods.

I suggest we just stick to caomparison of like for like A T2 TDi as it stands with a troopper 3.1 as it stands!

mine hase no gadgets at all! manual windows , no aircon, nothing! but thats' why i bought it cause that's how i like it. So if you love your gadgets you've won.

I have a SWB as manuverabiity is more important to me that interior space. I know I couldn't do the things i do in mine in a Trooper as they are too big. Notably reversing very large caravans into very tight soaces and arund sharp bends.

Having said that I couldn't do it in a lwb T2 either or our Ranger or or L200.

And on the road my T2 out manovers and performs most large 4x4's as it's hading is excleent and it's acceleration very nice :naughty

so tell us why you like yours.

I do love a good debate :clap

Youve started something here & me fingers are working over time :doh :augie

At this rate my post count will over take "extreme-4x4" :augie :lol

i have to have a lwb due to the kids.

i have loads od gadgets which i like (i am an gadget nut but hate the iphone)

i have a warm bum and hot air from the second i start the engine

i have a better seat arrangement with the ability to fold the rear seats up out of the way on one side or the other due to needing 6 seats

the folding mirrors are handy as i live on a street with no off road parking, also the fact that they are heated and the electirc movement actually works (didnt on my mav)

i like the twin door arrangement on the rear door

i like my electric memory seats

i like how the doors have lights in them when opened

i like how i have more space in the car and more leg room in the back

i do like the build quality of the horn as everything electrical still works after 15 years

i like that i have no rot yet due to only being in this country for 4 years.

isnt the Isuzu "less popular" simply because Isuzus were always utilitarian, so carried that stigma around in the 90's. Fact is, they are capable vehicles, from a very good manufacturer. I see plenty of Isuzus around, probably as many as I do T2's and certainly more than Mavericks. would I buy one? Yes, a SWB I would, can I afford one, no, they are too expensive for me.

really as they come in under the price of the t2

unless you are looking at the 3.0 please dont buy one of them as i wouldnt give one to any one :doh

less were sold internationally than the t2 unless you count all its disguises then it out sold quite a few 4x4's
