Hi.

I have the hitachi maf on my Terrano 2.7TDI 97'
I want to check if it's the MAF that is the problem or the wiring.

Does anyone know what data i should get if i try to OHM the MAF.
If anyone got the hitachi maf that works, could you use the OHM meter and check the resistanse between the different connection on the maf sensor?

I checked mine recently. As far as I can remember you need to test for a 12v supply at terminal 2 with the engine off and the plug disconnected.
With the plug connected, engine on but not running, you should be getting around 1v at terminal 4.
With the engine running you should get around 2v.
Mine's not doing anything because my fuel system is not connected to the ECU, so if yours is knackered and you want a replacement, just ask.

Hi.

if you have 4 terminals, i think you got the BOSCH maf.
My hitachi maf has 3 terminals

I am not familiar with the Hitachi MAF, but for clarity, If it is Bosch it has a 5 pin connector with only 4 of the 5 used as follows:
Pin 1 N.C.
Pin 2 +12V
Pin 3 Ground
pin 4 +5V
Pin 5 MAF o/p signal

MAF o/p signal ign on engine stopped ~1V, engine running at tickover ~2V, engine at ~3000 RPM >~4V.
The Hitachi MAF figures should be similar.

my ECUtalk tells you exactly what the voltage are at the MAF, really handy.

Hi, Lyder, just tested my spare Hitachi MAF three pins BCD. BC = 1210 ohms BD = 1688 ohms.

Hope this helps you, this MAF is very reliable and easily cleaned with alcohol or similar.

regards bri

Thanks.
This will help me on my way :)
I cleaned the MAF, it was full of dirt.
After i ohm'd the wires and then the connetors.
But i only got readings from the BC, nothing from the BD.
The car runs fine on low RPM but i feel im missing the last "oomph" at 2500+rpm.
just bought this car, so im not sure how much power it should be, but it doesen't feel that all 125hp are there. So i suspect that one of the wires on the MAF is for low rpm and the other is for high rpm. And the one for high rpm is faulty.

What do i need to buy to get the ECUtalk to work?
i got loads of diagnostic tool, but there universal OBD2 or for other car brands.
But the Terrano has the 14pin Consult plug.
from what i can find, this car isn't a OBD2.
So if anyone could give me a "link" to where i can buy the cables i need to connect it to my computer and run ECUtalk i would be very happy :)

You will need a laptop with serial interface.
The software (free) http://www.ecutalk.com/ecutalk.aspx
An interface, like this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-Co...iagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item2c61b94762

That's all.
BTW, ignore the software that comes with the interface, it's not good for use with diesels!

Yep I tried and tried and tried ................. It should be straight forward but there's some sort of issue I don't understand with chip sets and electrickery :doh Any way, yes you can do it but pot luck on the converter software :thumbs

Any body near me who will lend me the adapter, I will get a converter to try and get it to working. David.

That looks a goodun Sean. I'll order one after the hols next week.david.

depending on how much rs charge postage I can get them cheaper.

Also consider buying an old WinXP/unloved/unwanted/low spec laptop off of ebay, you can pick up old laptops with a proper serial i/f for similar money to a decent USB-Serial adapter.

good point, though be aware that to get any meaningful results a decent run out with ecutalk logging means that any laptop has to have a fairly decent battery life, most oldish lappies have very poor batteries
:thumbs

True, the battery in one I bought is totally shot, however I run it from a small 100W inverter with the laptop mains adapter.
Its also good to have a piece of dedicated kit that can stand being thrown around in the car!
