I keep receiving text messages from a scammer trying to get me to follow the link in the text regarding a £500.00 gift voucher.
These messages can't be blocked as there's no number to block.
Now I'm not thick enough to follow the link & I kept deleting these messages.
I decided to look up the scam in the internet, only to find that some people had been charged £5.00 for receiving these texts
Now I've contacted my carrier to see if I've been charged (thankfully not).
Apparently if you follow the link you will possibly get charged, but you could also have many of your details stolen.
These scammers get your number form when you've downloaded certain Apps from the App Store
So now the App store isn't safe like we've all been told

Just be aware. The kind lady at EE has put a block on my number/account so hopefully I won't receive any more scam texts.
If you get the same, ring your carrier & request a block also :thumb2

You often wonder, how can they do this great "App" for free...:doh

No such thing as a free lunch, think... "What's in it for them?" :nenau

Some get payment from advertisers, and simply other's sell on your details, with a few thousand other's too. :augie

They arrive in my spam box, and get deleted straight away........

For the internet savvy these people are becoming less of a problem, however I had my bank account emptied from an email scam purporting to be from my bank. This was several years ago though.

What really worries me is that the more vulnerable members of society with the most to lose are often the victims of this scum. My elderly parents, both in their late eighties for instance who think that everyone is still nice and will behave honourably. Even though I keep warning them to be careful what information they give out on the phone etc.

Regards

Alan

I think your account has been hacked... :nenau

just been though this with o2, solution is simple, most of these text have the option for you to send 'Stop' or 'Stop All', once you reply they are blocked, on the subject of being charged for your 'stop' text I had o2 on live web chat when I sent the text, they monitored it and blocked the charges, they also refunded the £3.75 for receiving the text in the first place, so in a nutshell talk to your mobile phone provider they can be helpfull

I've stumbled into an 'Allo 'allo scene or a Peter Sellers movie... :lol
