Behind the spring mounts seems to be a weak spot for both the Terrano and the Patrol. I wonder if it is due to the rear wheels throwing up water and mud that finds its way into the chassis.
Hopefully the rest of the chassis is in reasonable condition. At least you can make some repair pieces at work.
Elty is better placed to answer this Weedave, but by the looks of it is the tin worm.
On the second photo is looks like the chassis snapped next to a weld. Personally I find the welding on the chassis (ex factory) is pretty poor with not many nice, smooth welds. Perfect places for undesirables to get stuck and start attacking the metal.
On my Patrol, the chassis looked absolutely fine from the outside but at some places (predominately behind the rear axle) you could just stick your finger through the “solid” metal. They seem to corrode from the inside out, which makes spotting it even more difficult.
I changed the chassis and treat it with Dinitrol every year (inside and out) and the inside is still corroding.
