Me old girls got problems.

Originally on the way to Peak District and then a few months later on the way to visit rick, I get the engine warning light appear, usually between 60-70

At first we diagnosed it as maf sensor as she has always been a little sluggish uphill, so my new official Bosch maf sensor came today, I fitted it and it has made no difference, the high speed fault is still there... :(

They say a picture says a thousand words, so I've made a video which is uploading.

We did two runs onto the motorway, first was under 3/4 throttle and when around 60 was reached we got a pulsing like the engine was speeding then slowing, speeding then slowing, she would not really go anymore...

On the second run we only applied light throttle and the fault did not come on until 70mph, again, she reached about 60 then naturally I had to apply more gas to go faster, and as said... 70 was the end...

The power is still there, she goes like a rocket (maf amp off)
She revs right up to the redline
The problem was there before maf amp
You can full throttle it and it doesent hiccup

I wont have access to a diagnostic computer for atleast 3 weeks so any advise would be lovely.

Video to follow - please be kind

It's probably due to the thickness of the veg, can't get enough fuel but you would think it would effect revs too?

I'd run 100% diesel and see if it does it.

Could be a bad seal on the fuel filter, air in the fuel lines or even water in the fuel. My filter was partly blocked & didn't look very dirty untilI cut the thing open & was shocked at the state it was in I also found I had water in the fuel:doh changed the fuel filter & now use a different garage & it's running fine:thumb2
Check the fault codes easy to do with a paper clip (I now use Rick's version:thumbs) you need to bridge bottom left & right contacts on the later plug which yours should have:thumbs

Found link for reading fault codes on later models http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23027

fuel filter, had same problem infact just ordered a new one of egay, you will notice it does it on slight inclines aswell :D

Engine had been on for 30 mins before drive. So had time to thin..

I'm almost wondering of the sensor on the throttle could be at fault, but again can apply heavy gas down low... :doh

Yes inclines and heavy gas at speed only. Cruising round town it's a monster :nenau

We only did the filter like 4 months ago

All be it a lot of veggie has gone through it though

remember the veggie will drag all the crap up to the filter and clog it so under load the fuel don't flow fast enough, i went through same process, maf etc. in end it was a simple £7 fuel filter :lol

As said, Fuel filter is number one, followed by one of the flexible bits of fuel line collapsing when the vacuum created by the fuel pump is increased under load.

Have you got clear lines to and from the filter housing to check for air?

I don't think it's filter if the EML comes on ? How about TPS ?

Think reading the fault codes is your next step :augie

read above ^^^ as said mine came on, new filter fixed it

Yeah thanks dude, I just edited my previous post.

So update****

I will try a new filter tomorrow, and as it happens we have a long trip to bedfordshire tomorrow so I will report in the evening.

Please please please terrano god, let it be my filter!!!!! :bow:bow:bow

Lack of fuel can cause a number one injector fault code.
As the needle lift sensor will not operate correctly with insufficient fuel.

Yes as you mentioned on the phone too :clap

So if we can read codes at work with a multi reader (a generic cheapi we have) I shouldn't be alarmed if I see injector code.

Oh, last question, what eml code do you get with this filter issue then?

erm.....mine flashed.......i changed the fuel filter and it didn't flash anymore :augie :lol:lol:lol:lol
