x reg terrano 2 - key only - no fob - open door (and all locks) with key in drivers door, jump in and starts up ok then all doors lock - will open with operation of lever/paddle on drivers door - however when you jump out (and leave key in ignition) to say - open a gate, and wind blows door shut - central locking activates and locks me out, can this be deactivated? or do i have a fault?

look at the TCU ~ "time control unit" wiring in the EL section of the manual, its all done from there.

also worth removing the drivers door lock and checking it over there is a bit that gets out of place and causes all-sorts of central locking probs just done one a few weeks ago but memory has failed as to the exact description, but you can reconnect it when out and see exactly what is happening, that will teach me to take pics in future, trouble is I forget, Rick

Ricks idea is good, although I've only ever seen problems where its refused to lock, as opposed to the other way round.

Based on similar experiences with other vehicles though (inc a brand-new 5-series) I'd be looking for water ingress in an electrical connection somewhere......you might need to remove the door cards and get your torch out.....

Have had this problem now for about a year, tried all above but can't find out whats wrong, so will keep an eye on this thread.. :thumb2
Our's now relocks as soon as it unlocks unless we open the door right away.

does it do it if you unlock with the key instead of the fob - alarm will go off til you put key in ignition and turn? Defo sounds like an electrical short or possibly a misbehaving fob/remote?

There is a self test mode for the TCU that will check the majority of the switch signals etc. This will save a lot of time compared with checking them with a meter etc.
An additional bonus is, it checks all of the wiring in the bargain.

This should at the very least, significantly narrow down the area of the problem, without having to tear the vehicle apart!
It is described fully in manual section EL-182 -->

Trouble Diagnosis
The Timer Control Unit includes software to help during development testing, manufacturing and service.
It allows the technician to put it into Diagnostic Mode. In this mode, all switch inputs can be tested for continuity and if so equipped, alarm triggers identified.

When the time control unit is in Diagnostic Mode, the control unit tests the component and indicate the result
by the hazard lamp flashing.
