I think some of the previous comments a little harsh but then again not to be ignored.
I'm a big fan of modding these trucks as you may know but being hands on is a benefit. That said I'm not in the Alex bumper fan club :lol
As for mot I'm not aware yet of the mods done that would cause an MOT fail !
My own fall back has always been that the insurance company are aware of all the mods I've done. My trucks have passed their MOTs with the mods in place.
Rear arb removal will obviously extend articulation but has very little effect on road handling. The front does most of that. Front bush gone on Alex's arb is amongst the most common failure of the forum threads on std trucks , so nowt unusual there. Get it fixed obviously.
The re-sale price of the truck will undoubtedly have gone down from std ones but not the value to Alex.
This could indeed have been a nasty accident and the offending fitting luckily found before injury but as said before guys, it must have been fitted wrong before the lift.
The steering colum/shaft thing is at quite a shallow angle , probably about 25 degrees ish. The bolt slacking is mainly to allow the body to be lifted higher than needed to get the spacers in and then it settles back to a position very close to it's original. About 5mm I reckon. Without going all Pythagoras :augie
Any road up, some valid comments and some harsh but in the end no one got a bloody nose. Once you're back from buying those lottery tickets Alex, have an hour or so checking your nuts eh :)
Then make sure your truck is safe :lol

Alex i had a leak from my pump just like yours. I chucked a couple of cans of engine oil stop leak in the tank after 200 miles the leak had stopped right or wrong it worked.

Cheers Gav

Howdy all, good news all sorted at work, and yes all comments are taken on board.

Rustic - you are a lovely dude and have your heart in the right place but please know I am aware, it does aggravate when some of the comments are made, even though I'm sure you mean with good intention. Anywho on a plus note work have lengthened it out of the bulkhead. They still want me to get another donut anyway but this wont come apart. :thumb2

And now reseated :thumb2

For anyone that has to do this the rubber fin faces upwards for straight steering on the steering box.. Wasn't sure which direction :thumb2

Wise words.

sent from my phone, sorry for any typo's.

...Rustic - you are a lovely dude and have your heart in the right place but please know I am aware...

Point taken Alex, apologies for the last few harsh postings on this matter, a bit OTT but this is how pasionate I am about safety.

I have seen many things in my life that I seem to know what could happen before it does. A bit of a premonition I guess, or just plain common sense really.
No I don't do the lottery, maybe I should...:augie

One day, many years ago, I was on the M42 and on the opposite carriageway a guy had his lorry cab tipped forward, held in place with what looked like a piece of timber, I thought, that looks dangerous, he was leaning in...
When I got home I watched "Midlands Today" and they were discussing an accident on the M42 where a lorry driver was killed when his truck cab fell on him.
You can imagine how sick I felt, could I have done something...?
Not practical really, in the days before mobile phones, but still it is in my memory.:doh

So I have said my views, so I will back off a bit.:thumb2
Anyhow, you are now a proud owner of some axle stands, which was my first moan...:augie
So we are getting there.:thumb2

Hopefully when you start a job, you will have in your thoughts... Now what would Rustic say about this?:nenau
If you do... then I have made a difference. :thumb2
After all, we are all placed on this earth to make a difference.

What have you done today?:nenau

interesting mod there Alex, not sure how it would stand up to extreme stresses, but lots on here have lifted their bodies by 2 inches and do not recall them needing to do this kind of mod, so what gives? we know that your front shocks (the originals) are different to pre 99, and your rear brakes are as well so what other surprises do the later models have, Rick

Yes tis a bit different, the techs at my work still want me to get hold of 2 donuts off the terranos so they can do a proper mod, they have called this a temp fix.

Does make you wonder what the different models have lurking? :naughty

I just like to say that you were F'kin lucky you didn't take yourself/your passengers or others out mate. I've just come back from Norfolk with my family at around 60 to 70 mph and if it had happened to me then, well I'd hate to think what would have happened :(

That must have been a wake up call for you.

Nothing to "wake up" about really, it was an unfortunate incident which I was obviously not expecting otherwise I would have done something about it.

These things happen from time to time, just lucky it picked the right spot.

Had I known there was an underlying issue then it would have been tackled.

I think people only see me post quick mods on here and assume its a bodge when infact a lot more goes on "behind the scenes" if you catch my drift. :thumb2

Attention Alex

having looked at you pic in post 26, you seem to be missing a very important part, ie the safety bracket, if the rubber splits as it is you will loose all steering, with the safety bracket in place you will at least retain some steering if a little slack, so I have to ask did you remove it or was it not there before???????????? Rick

Been meaning to ask, yep we actually took it all off, looked at it, all the jag techs were like "what is this supposed to do" systems must be different.

Of course as we are dismantling it again anyway they made sure we held on to it :thumb2

in my humble and probably worthless opinion , by removing the safety bracket it was an accident waiting to happen

No Mr Briggie sir, you have the wrong end of the stick, the bracket was only removed Saturday (after the steering came off)

The techs here still think its a stone guard more than anything?? its only attahced to two bolts.. doesent hold it together? :nenau

Yeah here we go, have a zoom on this picture, It may stop it falling to pieces all together but the car would be far from driveable if the bolts had come out anyway, and frankly I wouldnt be suprised if it would just fall out anyway if it came off.

The techs are good here, the mod they intend to do will be ace no doubt! :sly
