ok so i have been looking through the old posts on this subject. and i beleive pete has got this in store for us this time

so im right in thinking that we are all happy with this.....water .
how deep was it when you did it pete.
how long did it take
can you provide coordinates for start and end of track

im just asking in case anyone else wants to tag along. maybe some of the midlands members. as we are going up to mid wales we are going to be close to some of the other members from brum and west midlands

if anyone else has done this track could they pass any info on
ie how hard it is , how deep it gets etc

we was playing near the sarn yesterday and the police were present . they advised us only parts of the sarn were opening in april. they never tell you what parts though.
it must cost walters tens of thousands to open that for traffic then close it.

The route is fine and you dont need to do deep water bits as there's nearly always another way through. I did it in a street toyota hilux last time and with a street wrangler(about as much ground clearance as a badgers arse):thumbs no probs.
We dont hold with all this legal can you cant you poo also no hi vis jackets allowed etc

Probably a dumb question ,why are so many guys on green lane outings wearing hi vis jackets/vests? Is it a requirement in the UK or what?

Done Strata Florida many times in both standard and modified 4x4's. It is a good long lane with a few water crossings. As long as there hasn't been persistent rain for the few days before you go you'll be fine.
What date are you thinking of going?

One final thing and dont take this the wrong way, S.F is an extremely sensitive lane at the moment. Not so long ago a Disco overturned on 1 of the crossings and a 17 yr old girl died, you'll probably see the tributes when you get there. There is evidence in many areas of idiots driving off route and causing damage to the surrounding areas. Many tracks have been cut through the river banks but the proper route isn't too difficult to follow, its a solid track all along except for the climb from the Northern end which has a decent washout.
So the point i'm making is please stick to the proper route.
Dont be tempted to go 'off piste, we already risk losing this fantastic lane forever.

fair point... i will keep an eye on things.... to be honest if its open and as you say a nice run there is no need to go off the tracks and spoil things for everyone else.

i know i do the sarn helen but as i understand it, its closed anyway so its already lost. i do it as my protest to the fact they have closed it. or have they its still unclear?

i dont think any of us deliberately go out to spoil things. but as some protest quietly others make a little more noise

Yes thats the point I was trying to make, that lane is under close scrutiny because of the irresponsible few.
In good weather its a very nice easy lane to drive but it can bite back when the weather turns.
We were up theere on boxing day 2007 and we were breaking ice 3" thick on the long puddles, boy it was cold that day.

And has anyone got the actual route in a form we can see? From reading another writeup it looks like theres a route back down to Llandovery round Llyn Briane which comes back to the point where we left the road last month....so I might try that either going or coming.....

52deg15min45sec and 3deg49min30sec
That should translate to the start of the track SE from Strata Florida at Bwlch Y Craig. On my OS map the route is called Lon Las Cymru. This continues SE to Nant Y Stalwyn. As long as it's not been persisting down all week then it's mainly old tracks and ford crossings.There are some steep bits on rock bed so take your towbars off and you'll be ok.
The track does eventually become a proper old road that can be used to get all the way down to Llyn Brianne reservoir.
Depending how the day goes there's loads of other tracks in the area.
So have a look on de map and let me know if you've got any questions.

Remember your ticky clocks go forward an hour the night before still, thats another hour of digging/daylight...

I've managed to get Fugawi working with the OS map for that area and my newly-acquired Bluetooth GPS/dongle so we'll even know exactly where we are!!

I assume we'll be stopping for a brew?!

what was wrong with good old fashioned OS co-ords then? You're not at sea now Capt Pugwash....LOL

But as soon as I get back home I'll do that very thing. Had a little test drive last night and worked out how to record a track, so that I can print off a route after the event to show exactly where we went...havn't yet mastered the art of getting that into a straightforward jpeg or something you can upload, but it will come!!!
