ah good, dont get me wrong the cost of doing this way is hefty and took me a while to make a decision. Just so happened the time was right.

Just a small point that I discovered while away camping and had some time, noticed that the motor was not starting as I expected ie first turn of engine seemed to hit a block compression then speeded up but still too long before running, so removed recently refurbished starter to check it out, suspected crimped stator brush joints as originals were high frequency welded but I could only do brass crimps, all looked OK but decided to solder these two joints anyway with my portable gas jobbiie, result starts on the button just like before so now well pleased,Rick

as in HF pipe seam welds??
so are you saying the high frequency welded connection makes for a better (in electrical terms) connection than just a brass crimp??
does this apply to the likes of battery terminal cable termination i wonder??
why would that be, something in the molecular structure of the metals themselves?
with addition of the solder i assume this is then allowing the current to flow better through the connection??

i'm always keen to learn.

The original were copper braided wire "spot welded" to the flat copper wire on the field coils I could only crimp as space is very tight but clearly the electrical connection on high amps was not good enough, I did not go for solder originally as thought it may melt but the combination of crimp and solder seems to have done the job, Rick

Needs a tune, but I can tell you its a bit of a scary machine as it sits on 15psi with boost compensated pump.

Quick question - would you guys prefer me doing this as a "how to" pdf file or just as post by post sort of thing on the forum??

I thought it may be useful to spend some time putting those little arrows etc onto the photos so it could be followed easily in case anyone wanted to do it.

I don't understand much about turbos, but does your new turbo has variable geometry?
Did you choose a smaller turbo, better torque at low rpm or a big turbo, huge power on the high rpm?
