Well. Last time I fitted an aftermarket stereo in the 99-plate T2 it was a breeze....removed centre of dash quite easily, whipped out old radio, fitted ISO adapter cable and bingo, job done.

On my recently-acquired 02-plate things are very different. Firstly someone on here very kindly sent me a link to a site that shows you how to get the radio out. Except it didn't.

Looked fine at first glance - pop out the fascia, remove two screws and hey presto. Borrox; I spent ten minutes carefully extracting the fascia trying not to trash the dash trim, then had to unclip the gearstick surround and remove six more screws up and down the centre of the dash before it finally fell away.

"Home and dry" I thought - until I looked at the cables. The "All Nissan Models" ISO adapter I had just flashed out £12 for was useless.

I've attached a photo of the two plugs and would be interested to know if anyone else has swapped out the OEM unit on this vintage of truck; if so, where did you get your cable??

I've photographed the dissembly and will finish the job when I get the bits so I can post a workshop download, but am awaiting feedback from a couple of suppliers about the right cable....I don't really want to rewire the bl**dy thing...

First pic is of the two connectors that I need to get females for to plug into the ISO adapter (or straight into the ISO socket on the Sony head)...

and this shows the entire wiring harness for the OEM stereo; note two things - (i) its got steering wheel controls so there will be extra cables in there I guess, and (ii) the brown plug which feeds off the same loom is the hazard warning light switch connector...

Thanks Theron. I've sent them an email enquiry suggesting I send the above pics first, as £33 isn't cheap for an adaptor lead sadly and I don't want to get it wrong - have you actually used that cable then and did you have the same connectors (females) as in my photos?!

I don't want to use the s/wheel controls especially; the new Sony isn't equipped for it (I bought it for USB and 3.5mm Aux on front panel and its got a remote anyway) and i find the control unit annoying when holding the wheel and might eventually remove it...I wonder if that causes any problem with the wiring..?

what a wonderful chap you are Theron - off to Halfords as we speak!!

Hang on - just remembered I have one of those going spare. I tried it first (it worked) before I found the adapter with the steering wheel controls. I can post it to you to try and if it works you can send me £10...

Theron,
I looked everywhere for one of these. so i could use the stearing wheel adapter.

So you just use that cable and the one for the stereo and that is it.

Yes - the cables are actually made by 'Celsus UK' (but they sell through CarAudioDirect): http://www.celsusice.co.uk/

As I said the cable sometimes doesn't work on 'Skip Forward' with my Pioneer but Celsus told me it was an issue with some Pioneer stereos and that it doesn't happen on other stereo makes.

Celsus were pretty good at answering questions when I emailed them.

Big Public Thank You to Theron....shame I got your response too late, I was already halfway to Halfords by then...pleased to report that I got exactly what I wanted for £12.99 (the cable without steering controls) so thanks to you I'm twenty squid better off than I would have been.

Who says it doesn't pay to be in this looneybin? :clap:clap:clap

I should say, further to Theron's comment about www.caraudiodirect.com that of the 3-4 places I emailed, they were the only ones to respond (they have an online helpdesk function), they did so fairly quickly and with the right answer (same cable as Theron suggested), so next time I'm in the market for car audio I know where I'll be going.....
