SVO question. Other fuels too.

i think it was daved who metioned your allowed 2,500 liters of svo per year without paying any duty on it

im not sure so ive started a thread so anyone can look into it if the want

i just wondered it there is anything in writing or on a web site (official like)
so i can see the wording

yep being the argumentative type i wondered if it clearly stated svo or other fuels or something....... kero is my hope really


also i read some put petrol into deisel i think it was something like 10% petrol into deisel. in colder climates
would this be just to stop freezing or will there be any other effects

DON'T mix petrol in to diesel its dangerous ,lowers the flash point the addatives are already in our fuel(u.k.) and if you driver abroad they add different stuff to lower the freezing point

4. Accounting for excise duty
4.1 When is excise duty chargeable?

Excise duty is due on the setting aside (see paragraph 4.2 below) or use of biofuels for a 'chargeable use'. 'Chargeable use' means the use of that substance:

(a) as a fuel for any engine, motor or other machinery, or

(b) as an additive or extender in any substance used as fuel for any motor, engine or other machinery

(c) for the production of bioblend or bioethanol blend

Excise duty is not chargeable if you set aside or use biofuel:

* as a heating fuel;
* for any other non-motor fuel use.

See Section 5 regarding the mixing of biodiesel and bioblend with rebated heavy oil. Biofuel producers (and motor and heating fuel users in general) are required to register (make entry of) their production premises with HMRC if they produce 2,500 litres or more a year. This includes producers of 100% heating fuel.

i popped into a local kebab supplier today for some bbq meat, while i nosing around as you do, i came across a big pile of cooking oil, off to the till and asked how much, 20lt =17.99, so i might be buying a few drums in the near future, as diesel is £1.05p down here.:augie

right, i will dig out the makro card and have a look, missus has a costco card so will have a look there to, they were ok on price last year but it went through the roof, but i will check. :thumb2

I got 3 x 20litres last week at that price @ makro Teesside. DONT pick up the 20l tins by mistake, theyre over £16

what i was asking was what are the effects of adding petrol to diesel say 10%
i know they run on it in colder climates
so it must still work

but will it be a better fuel (legal like) better bang more power... anything

im guessing it will thin svo too if you mixed it 10% so less need to heat it


or will the petrol just explode when the glow plugs start to heat it:doh

I've heard of lots of people adding a gallon of 4 star to a tank full of diesel in the cold weather to stop it freezing. never heard of any problems tbh.

If I think about it I dont know if it stopped it freezing either :lol

If you cant make Makro, I've just been in Tescos and managed to wander out with a few litres of oil.

KTC 10 litre packs on offer @ £7.99. Not one of the better offers but when you drive past the filling station 500yds away and theyre advertising diesel @ 101.9 a litre :clap
