try it in the morning just platy with the revs, when its cold
dont just zoom off up the road. really try the gears and revs..
then when its warm do it again... you will see the difference

as i say my gearing is not helping so mine is very noticeable before the turbo kicks it up the arse then its ok

so you should notice it pre turbo point
not a lot but its loosing the zing when hot

and i know you have probably gone outside now, to try it:nenau

see i know:thumbs:)

Paul, in the spot where youre installing the heater (between the filter and pump?) whats the internal diameter of the hose

cheers

well i think i might have to put it after the pump as its all metal pipe up to that point...:nenau

I've just been have a good poke around as they say and I've found two potential spots for the heater I'm about to buy ;)

One is just after the metal pipe that runs across the bulkhead from the fuel filter and theres a rubber section before its attached to the metal pipe into the fuel pump. I guess the rubber section is there to absorb the vibrations/shock between the parts mounted on bodywork and parts mounted on engine?

That spot is as per the instructions, the second one is a bit more radical. I am thinking about fixing the heater on the inlet to the filter. A few thoughts behind this, when I got caught out in the cold weather, the fuel filter was the part that struggled with gooey oil in so is it better to feed warm oil into there?

Surely within the engine bay, especially the fuel pump are mounted on the engine block, there will be some warmth for the fuel line?

Any thoughts???? :bow

Just about to go back outside again and its thundering!!!! to save me getting p**s wet through , does any kind person know the internal diameter of the rubber hose going into the diesel filter? my money is on 6 or 8 mm.

cheers

:bow

My only concern about pre-filter was that it might be cold again by the time its got to the engine - wonder if its worth insulating the pipes, even with a bit of foil..?

i would have thought insulating everything would help keep it warmer the fuel tank pipes the lot! as the returned fuel will be warm and warm up the tank contents (wont it?) and so if it is laged surely it will take longer to cool down?

maybe a couple of layers of buble wrap round the tank? r some of that foil backed lamiate floor underlay?

for the pipes maybe something like this?

I dont actualy know what i am talking about just ofering a few ideas!

I've seen some where a jacket type heater for the fuel filter. Cheap as chips:lol
So you could then do both:thumbs

I'm looking now boss. I had one on my old Toyota Hilux.
So will have a butchers in the garage too in a bit:thumbs

i like makeitfit's idea. easy to install and simple. but is it thermostatically switched or on all the time

could produce other problems like battery drain

it was on all the time on me Hilux. Didn't know what it was till I sold the truck:lol
Never a prob. though:thumbs

Agreed its a good scheme, I like the look of that. I have not found one thats thermostaticilly controlled though :nenau

Speaking to people who are interested in this type of anoraky project (but have no product to sell), the best results seem to come from heating the oil as it is in or goes into the filter and then again as it goes into the pump.

If I use two of the units that Paul linked to Ive covered my costs in one month in the diesel v's svo pricing and should only draw "thermostaically controlled" 16 amps via a 2 coil split charge type relay with an override switch in the cab.

dead easy to fit as well

I still reckon I'll stick to 75% + diesel in the thick of winter so it may just help with that too :nenau

Dave, the front of your new van will be stinking:lol

Make sure the front window seals are sound:nenau

When you stop in layby's you might get peeps chapping the window for burgers&chips etc:lol:lol

Sorry couldn't resist that one:doh

I must admit you've got bottle to run long term on SVO:thumbs

I thought about it, but I've read too much on the gumming piston rings and pump issues that I didn't go that way:eek:

Good luck:thumbs
