Well, finally took the step! Got the tank down to just under quarter full and put in 10 litres of sunflower oil (this is a dummy run to see if it makes any difference to the emissions, ready for my Spanish MOT next month).

Initial reaction - engine appears quieter (could be my imagination or the cold that has blocked my sinuses and my ears!)

No appreciable difference to the cloud of smoke on start-up or when blipping the throttle, seems to accelerate just as well, however, a distinct smell of eau de MacDonalds at the rear!

Time will tell.

If its cold i would mix 50/50
It probably is about 50/50, that's why I didn't put the SVO in until the tank was showing quarter full, however the temp. over here in Spain is currently around 20 - 25 during the day, although in the mornings it can drop to 2 or 3, most days though it's around 8 or 9 first thing.

Now that it seems there are likely to be no problems running it with SVO I will go back to straight diesel until just before the MOT is due, I'll then do the same again, quarter full with 10 litres of SVO. Mind you, with SVO from Lidl here working out at around £4 for 5 litres, and diesel at around £1.25, it's tempting to consider using SVO all the time (or until the Spanish government put a tax on SVO to make it unviable, which apparently is happening soon).

im on almost 100% svo was zero emmisions at mot time in nov run as much as you can the week of yours

I was 90% this morning, started no problem but mil light was on for 30 miles and wouldn't go out until it was proper toastie under bonnet

No MIL light, no ECU, in fact not much of anything on my agricultural pre-intercooler T2 - sometimes I think it's a distinct advantage!

Good tip, I'll do that.
Have you had to change the fuel filter more often, someone said the SVO frees up all the gunge in the system, blocking the filter.
