Suspension mods?

Right oh help needed please for my newly acquired Patrol :sly
I need to source some longer springs and shocks. I can sort body lift bits locally unless there's some trickery about them
Any body know any cheap suppliers?
Also if I do a 60mm body lift and 50mm plus springs, will I need extended brake lines?

No I've no idea what spring rates are what but maybe shocks would work
I'll have a spy at Stuarts and see what flavour ends are on their shocks:thumbs

Milners do the longer springs, but a chap I bought my alloys from said they were crap!
I posted some spring lift inserts on the ebay link afew days back, 15mm 30mm and 50mm.
I'm looking at new standard springs an a set of these poly spacers.
If you want new OME set up your looking at £600+
Keep me up dated as I would like a 2" spring lift so may be cheaper for 2 sets.

What year is your truck?

There's plenty of shocks avail it seems but the coils are the tricky bit. I didnt fancy the spring spacers though
I'd like to get longer springs but softer for off road work. Like the ones I got for the T2 but Terranus not doing anything these days:doh

I fitted +50mm OME springs and shocks to my old Patrol just before her demise, it was two years ago now but the cost then was £100 a corner, I didn't need to extend the brake lines.

Last time i looked it was£80 per spring and £80 per shock

i missed a set on the bay for £200 OME +2" springs n shocks Hey Ho!!:nenau

Hi Makeitfit,
I have OME 2" springs+ 30mm poly spacers on the back just to make it more level to look at, plus helps with articulation on the back.
Pro comp do springs but loads of people tell me that they are hard, jeep, landrover etc.
Procomp & OME are the only people who i know do 2" plus shocks. pro comp being the cheaper, but OME are a lot better for twice the price they should be, plus i think there might be a problem getting pro comp, as explorer uk went bust, hence why i have pro-comp on the front & OME on the back.
Remember lifting the body will not give you more clearance on chassis or axles.
Looked into doing mine a few years ago, but seemed a pain to do, good luck if decide to go down that route.

also, if you go up try and go out as well.

Front Coil springs x2 £189.60
Nitrocharger Sport Shocks x2 £235.20
Rear Coil springs x2 £189.60
Nitrocharger Sport Shocks x2 £235.20
The springs are rated to suit truck weight with all mods included.
Body lift is needed though to get some 35s on or pref 37s :naughty
Looks like I'll emd up getting the OME coils and some shocks from Aus:thumbs

try simon t rex. if he cant get the parts for you, im sure he will help with part numbers etc . then scour ebay.com the states and other countries.

im sure with little effort and some part numbers the right parts will become less expensive or made to fit

What are the advantages of lifting a truck - given that in the case in point it doesn't give you any extra chassis clearance. Is it a "pimp my truck thing".

I appreciate that in extreme off road circumstance you may improve wheel articulation (is that right?). But how extreme do conditions need to be.....

This is a pertinent point for me. I'm fixing to go to Morocco in the truck. Delayed 'cos of inconvenient cancer op - but I'm still going. I need to renew shockers and springs. I was going to go for uprated standard length. This may lift a little - but nothing like 2". Well I@m sure this is teachning granny to suck..what was it now? Oh yes, eggs :doh.....there are the two options....a 'body lift' does exactly that and lifts the body, as you indicate, a couple of inches off the chassis...so it provides a bit more clearance, say for the sills when negotiating tight lanes. Its also sometimes needs pipework (brakes, colling etc..) extending. BUt it leaves the running gear untouched and inside its design envelope.

A 'chassis lift' on the other hand lifts the whole thing, giving better ground clearance all round...can be achieved by longer spring or bigger tyres or both. Doesn't need anything extended but does put more strain on things like CV joints and steering components, either because of unnatural angles or the higher leverage that massive tyres can introduce.

So its horses for courses and based on what we've seen here with folks who've gone to the extreme (like Extreme/Makeitfit) I'd say the further you go the more problems you will encounter. Personally, if I was planning a long arduous trip I'd go for bigger tyres and levelling of torsion bars and leave it at that. But thats just me.:thumb2

..... confirms what I was thinking. Presumably when Nissan designed the truck they knew something about achieving a good balance of off road ability and tarmac performance.

I would only go +2" with springs and a bit extra on tyres 285 75 16..:thumb2

if as your avatar you have a y61 i would not recommend retro fitting of torsion bars:lol:lol
