2 very good points sir
The steering box was sealed with a piece of alu and bonded on with silicone adhesive. I gave it a dose of oil when I did it but it isnt actually IN oil now. It's simply a broody great big steering idler, and I'm really pleased with it's job so far:thumbs Not a hint of wear .
The thrust bearing is likely to fail but how long is the question:augie It is greased up now. I couldn't find a sealed version. Have you seen such a thing?

No I cannot think of anything suitable, so I think it is a case of wait and see, but would not a couple of bronze washers be just as good, and they should last longer, Rick

That's what I did have. They lasted about 3 months and needed frequent checking:eek:
That's not to say these will last any longer:rolleyes:
However I can tighten the swivel bolt up and it should stay put, where as the bronze washers worked loose in a few miles and so was back to a bit of slopp again.
We'll see ;)

having a bit of steering slop gives your truck some indivuallity :augie:lol

I think I missed something on that thrust bearing set up, on examining the pic again it looks like the nut and threaded bit it is on moves in the new drop link if this is so that is not a proper wearing joint and will wear very fast indeed, if it is this way then the nut can undo with potentially disastrous consequences, but I could be wrong, Rick

What size is needed I could use some of my time to scour the net for something sealed?

Also have you tried bearing man in aber?

Hi Fez, they need to be 15mm bore and about 30mm o/a I guess:thumbs
Where is "Bearing Man" in aber?:nenau

to seal it you could use the old classic of a washing up glove. Couple of zip ties, Packed with greeeeeeaze

Update

Just done some more development to my steering, again :augie
No probs with the bearings strangely but the bolts started to open up the holes in the drag link :doh
So had the steering arms modified by adding an extra plate of 5mm steel and a fillet to make a fork shape.

Sprayed with black hamerite :D

The idea is to stop the drag link twisting and so causing the steering to bounce about. So help reduce tyre wear, esp noticeable with big boots
Here you can see the idler arm and drag link together
