Started fitting my new super strong steering today. Binned the old 6 ball joint poo in favour of this
Photo330.jpg

Ferguson track rod end is considerably bigger than nissans:sly
New track control arm with a rose joint to go straight on to the steering arm

I'm doing this as a kit, so if anyone has the urge I can supply:naughty
All you need is a knackered drag link. The old balls are cut out and a swivel insert put in place. High tensile bolt and friction washers and rose joint later bingo, well hard steering:D

Loads of room now and no way the drag link can twist, therefore both wheels will now go in the same direction at the same time:rolleyes:
Here's what it used to look like:eek:

I'll have new ball joints on tomorrow then I'll do the driving pics:cool:

About £175 and that includes the loan of a reamer to open up the taper on the hub for the ball joint. Just get me an old drag link and the rest is done for you.
If you use the power steering box set up we talked about it will still work. All thoughtr of:D
Not much more than 6 ball joints, and cheaper than 6 ball joints and new drag link:thumbs

ok im in .... got a drag link here . ill find some hubs too so they can be prepped ready for easy fit. could do exchange then if you like

Cool, the hub is a piece of pish though. Just drill out to 14mm then use the reamer to do the taper.
The hubs are really heavy too so not worth posting. If you come up I'll do them for you in 10 mins, ish:sly

only just built all mine today using standard stuff... for mot . but it wont last as you know

ill have a kit so when i get my steering box lhd i can do it all again

like it lots

Ouch, where's the one you've tried?
Swap you for a window:sly

in my porch .... ok deal, when you popping over then . here til sat/ sun

No idea? Ball joints tomorrow, fit tomorrow night, check all Thurs, so poss Fri if I go to Swansea.
See what happens:thumbs

Update

Got it all rebuilt Friday night:D
Went for a test run to check all worked
Nearly broody killed myself
I've created a monster :augie:nenau:lol
It's just too good, it steers like a go kart, awesome BUT crap on the road, no wait a minute, er lethal on the road:lol
MK2 version on now and will hopefu;;y allow a little room for operator error:augie
Watch this space:naughty

watching already........... come on spill the beans what ya done for the mk 2

Sorry boys had to go to work :doh
Anyway MK2 is on and works a treat:D
I'll get the pics up later in the week, but essentialy returned to the std drag link but with swivel joints as before, then the rose joints on the other bit. The bit that usually hold the track rod end ball joint thing.
Everything is good n tight and seems to work on full tilt :sly
Feels all positive and sports car like steering now, but not as radical as the gokart version:lol

Got the steering box fitted and remembered the pics so here you go
Photo024.jpg

Little n large:lol Cut the bell end off and made an alu cover plate for the hole. Also cut the teeth off the spindle for rotation.
Photo036.jpg

Now that's a well hard steering idler and easy to do just get an old one and cut the spare off it. Turn the arm round and get some extra long bolts. I had some spacers made up so I could fit it on the existing holes in the chassis, simples:D

ahh but i got the proper left hand drive one , made for that side . no messin or modding .

only one problem

its still in france lol

AND considerably more euros than mine too :D
Anyway the important thing is it works a treat mate :thumbs

Right then 7 months on and I've found the next weak point:doh
Not having the benefit of Nissan's millions for research it's been done the hard way:)
Anyway I was getting a bit of slopp in the steering again so found the cause to be the swivel bolt and friction washer set up. Cheap and cheerful it was
Now got some proper tidy thrust bearing things
Photo210.jpg

Fitted these inbetween steering arm and drag link and wow what a difference:rolleyes: All nice n tight again:clap
Photo212.jpg

I may have to try it out in anger tomorrow me thinks:naughty

Looks very strong and manly, but two points, as the box was originally in oil how have you sealed that big hole to keep the water out and how do you fill it? and that lovely thrust bearing will last no time unless you can put a boot round it and fill it with grease, Rick
