Oh what a wonderful day.

The sunroof won't shut. It's wound back into the head lining and won't come out.

It leaks and the switch and map lights have had a good soak in the past so that might be the problem. I put a multimeter on it and the I can see the voltage change on the centre pins but without a wiring diagram I'm not really sure what should be happening.

What ever switch position I try I never hear the motor strain although when I was measuring voltage I did see something like 12v dropping to 11.8 suggesting a load had been switched in.

Which fuse services this lot of gubbins? I'd like to take the switch out and check its resistance properly so I'd like to remove the fuse.

Any other ideas. If I need to get to the motor is there a quick guide anywhere?

Sadly I wasn't the person pressing the button when this happened so I lack that 'situational awareness'.

Here's the wiring schematic from the workshop download

I'm sure if you remove the trim panels where the switches are there is a place to stick a screwdriver to manual wind it shut isn't there?

I've been told about it but never actually looked to prove the point.

Hmmm. If there is, it's hiding. :)

That said, under the flap behind the switches (nearer the sunroof) there might be such a thing but the previous owner has stuck some white blutac type substance presumably to stop a leak.

Is the motor at the front of the sunroof just behind the switches? If so, it looks like a couple of screws and that plastic surround would come of to expose all the gubbins.

Thanks for that. Although I have downloaded the manual I must admit I'm yet to find my way around it.

Interestingly I can't see how the sunroof knows when to stop before tilting. That said, mine was broken and I just guessed when closing but I've always assumed it was supposed to stop closed before another press forward made it tilt. I guess that must be some cleverness in the motor.

Haven't got my head around the fuse stuff on the diagram yet.

Don't worry mate I still don't fully understand it :lol

I've not seen this manual winder that people have talked about either, my Maverick had a sunroof and was forever leaking, soaked my old boss as we went round a roundabout once too, he got a load of rusty water to the face and shirt which was white as well :clap

Hi
Looking in my owners manual that flap behind the switches nearer the sunroof is the right one, remove the flap then it says the shaft end of the sunroof will be visible. Using screwdriver provided in the vehicle tool kit (any size that fits ) push the centre of the shaft end and turn clockwise. A warning does say Have the ignition key turned in the lock position. Would of taken a photo but camera bust on phone and sat in Aldi carpark.

yes a large flat blade screwdriver does it, point of note there is a pin in the middle that has to be pushed in to disengage the window from the motor or it will not turn, Rick

As Rick says.... Lacking the "Special Screwdriver" I thought it needed, I made one up, specifically to bridge the pin, as I thought that was an anti-tamper pin in the middle, but could not shift the motor.... after a talk with Rick, I tried a normal big screwdriver, pushed the pin in, and off I went...

With regards to the motor, it has some control switches built into the gearbox, to stop it at either end, and also in the shut position, and on Suz's car these were all gummed up and dirty. I took the gearbox apart, and fixed it, but would not recommend it to the faint hearted, as it took me an age to work out how it worked, and get it back together correctly... I did win though in the end!!

Hi all. We'll the good news is that the sunroof is shut. Under the white tack / bathroom sealant was the slot for the screwdriver. Was well rusty. At first the pin didn't want to depress. Then it did, I closed the sunroof and the pin stayed firmly depressed. The motor 'works' in both forward and reverse so goodness knows what was wrong in the first place. One for another day when I have more time. Better get the AC fixed though :)

Thanks again all.

That's good news then, at least we have it confirmed how to shut the sunroof.

Good luck with a fix as that may be a roof lining job:doh

You can get the motor out without removing the lining. You just need to remove the sunroof to head liner surround at the front, and the switch panel.

Hardest part is disconnecting the earth wire from the threaded stud welded to the roof, as you have to work in the dark, but all do-able...

I can't remember now if the motor is held in with Torx or Posidrive screws, but either way, I used the corresponding bit in a 1/4" drive socket set to make it easier to get between the head lining and roof onto the screw heads.
