Back on the Black Pearl rebuild I've come up with a snag :augie
My manly escape hatch has refused to re-boot :lol
It'll tilt up and close fine, but I can't get any slide action
Anyone have any first hand experience fiddling with these escape hatches ?
I can see the motor and switch gear are fine so assume some kind of obstruction or breakage :nenau

Is the rear of the hatch dropping down to allow it to slide. I have to help mine:nenau

That is what mine does. I have to push down on the glass to get it to drop.

On Suz's T2, it would tilt but not slide...

After a lot of work I discovered the cause.

There are 2 drive springs that the motor sprocket uses to move the roof. they each run round a grove that goes across the front of the roof, and then turn round a curved right angled bend and down the side to the sun roof mounts.

On Suz's one, the drive spring was so gummed up with hardened grease that when the bit that was on the front straight tried to go round the bends at either front corner it would bind up and stall the motor. The motor gear box has a neat little solenoid in it that when the motor draws over a certain current, it switches off the motor, and it will only re-energise when you reverse the power (e.g., if opening, and it stalls, you have to shut it a bit before you can try to open it again).

I removed the motor and roof, and using degreaser, WD40, White Spirit, heat gun, and engine degreaser, eventually got the spring freed up enough to go round the bends... I then used Molyslip to re-grease it and over the course of the Summer it is now working properly, just a little slow.

Awesome, can't beat first hand experience :thumb2 I was hoping not to have needed it's removal mind
Hey ho, I'll do some pics :lamer:

Removing the Sunroof is actually pretty easy, just pop the plastic covers off at the sides, and use a Torx driver to remove the 4 bolts, glass bit just lifts out. The motor is a bit harder, as you have to take the map lights etc out, and use a short Torx driver... I used a Torx bit in a small ratchet socket.

Aye no worries as I have no trim in there at all :D
Just the roll cage :doh

I still have the motor from mine if you need it

Same problems with mine, plus old and porous rubber seals letting in water.......hate the danm things.....siliconed the whole thing and sealed it over......now no leaks, and will never be opened anyway......:nenau
