...From my 2.7TDi Maverick!

Hmm... Turned the key, let the glow-plug light go off, started fine & ran at tickover...but no revs at all when the accelerator pedal's squeezed. Yes, the engine-check light came straight on, but I'm damned if I know what's wrong; and ideas, please, my friends? :nenau

Throttle position sensor at top of pedal ?

Cheers, chaps - I'll take a peek at the weekend... Bound to be something stupid...

I had a Mitsubishitty Sigma that did the same.

There was so much crap and sticky sludge around the throttle flap that when the engine was sucking there was too much of a vacuum for the spring loaded throttle cable to overcome, so it just ran on the air through the bypass and ticked over.
This was not apparent when the engine was off, the flap would open ok.

Just make sure you ain't got gummed up sticky Flaps!!!!

Goood luck it's just a thought

oooer and theres nothing worse than sticky flaps.

hi i have had the same problem, might sound a daft question burt does your radio still work, when you have no throttle response?
if the answer is no, suggest you turn the ignition key very slightly back, as this was my problem with the ignition live on the ignition switch itself.

mine still works at the moment........will replace the switch one day i suppose.

Don't think it's sticky flaps (or butterfly, I suppose it oughta be called!) - but I'll check, as the filters were crudded right up when I replaced them.

Kwondo, the radio & everything else worked - just the throttle didn't do anything except the merest hint of a few extra revs just once, then nowt but tickover before the engine-check light popped on...

We'll see - and thanks again, all! Let you know what I find...

checked the codes yet ? :nenau

Haven't had time yet, Briggie - it's my call-out rota weekend & it's going barmy, plus I've just lost my eldest cat to a severe stroke yesterday (bit upset, to say the least)... :(

Luckily, I've got a works van for daily use, so there's no hurry to sort the Mav' - I'll get down to it tomorrow, barring more call-outs...:thumb2

Thanks again, chaps - I'll definitely get a look at it soon, promise!;)

Sorted!!!

...It was a self-inflicted problem!

A little while ago, I asked if the tickover level could be adjusted up, & Clivvy answered with a mention of the throttle pedal sensor, and the possiblity that it might be possible to tweak a tiny adjustment from it by rotating it a tiny bit on its screws...and of course, when I got to contort myself into position to squint at it, I saw an adjustment screw-stop, and thought "Aha! Now, if I screw that down to take up the slack on the little drum..", and off I went with spanner & allen key...

Engine running, I fiddled with it, thought I'd raised the tickover slightly past the shudder-level, locked the nut down & test-drove it around the block. All seems ok...but come three days later, we jumped in a bit late for an appointment, started it up - jiggled the pedal, but no revving...(hence, this query). I swore - like you do...:(:doh

Had to wait 'til today for time to try to sort out the problem...and I thought, "I wonder if that adjustment is at fault?" Couldn't see how at first - but lo' and behold, reset the screw & nut back to its original position - Hey Presto! Revs galore!!!

So, I have to consider that there's a sequence of switching events that take place each time you press the pedal, so therefore, if part of that sequence gets out of sync', it registers a fault on the ECU and refuses to allow the bloody thing to work...? :nenau

What's so wrong with a good old-fashioned throttle cable & butterfly stops???

Either way, I'm a happy bunny, and it's running fine again. (*Note to self:- Don't twiddle with things you know naff-all about...*) ThinkI'll pay a visit to my tame local Ford mechanic & see if he can plug in his dongle (Ooer, Missus!) and jiggle the ECU idling settings to smooth the tickover out...unless you guys know better? :bow

Thanks muchly for your input!

On the pedal sensor there is a dedicated idle switch. If the switch indicates "idle" to the ecu, then pressing the pedal will have zero effect.

I am assuming that when you altered the set screw somehow the idle switch got 'altered' and wasnt actuating....

Seems like that, eh? I can only surmise that the very first millimetre or so of the rotation of the sensor is linked with the switch in such a way that one cancels-out the other if the adjustments aren't quite coincidental..ish... Summat like that, anyway... I ain't gonna take the bloody thing apart to find out, that's for sure!!:doh

Either way, I'm just happy that my tinkering hasn't done permanent damage to the ECU's programming...:bow

Sensitive blighters, these motors, eh? "If it ain't broke, don't 'fix' it," I suppose... :nenau

The devil makes work for "idle" hands.(sorry couldn't resist) :surrender
