Starting problem

What's the glowing tip made of then? I assumed it was ceramic

Yep, it's a Platinum or Iridium filament in a ceramic sheath apparantly!

By the way, the Terrano burst into life this afternoon and sat there ticking over like a Swiss watch again. Hopefully that's done it. The problems were knackered glowplugs, lazy starter and a blocked filter and hopefully nothing else that I don't know about.
