Recently started to get starting issues with the terrano.
Starts straight away then stalls after a few seconds.
Try to re start and it spins over for a good 20 seconds before it fires up.
Gave it a good going over and I'm getting air in the fuel system from somewhere.
Fitted new fuel lines from front to back last August but gave them all a good going over and made sure all the hose clamps where tight and there was no signs of any leaks.
I bypassed the filter housing and fitted a primer bulb in line earlier to rule out the primer pump.
Started on the button once i had got all the air out of the lines.
Been stood for most of the day so i went out and its still the same with an air bubble appearing in the highest part of the fuel line.
Banshee suggested failing seals on the IP as another possible cause.
Also injector seals are one to factor in.
Anything else I'm over looking???

After a lot of searching, with a similar problem, mine turned out to be the actual filter mount. The first time it was a split in the aluminium housing, where the input pipe adaptor screwed in. I discovered it was loose, and just thought it needed tightening up, but when I tightened it up, the problem got worse, then I discovered the split on the bottom.

I never found the cause of the problem the second time, so just replaced it as a whole.

I've got a filter housing coming at the end of the week:thumb2
Going to move my bulb primer onto the return after the pump and clear all the air out again tomorrow.
Was chucking it down today and i got soaked so gave up for the day.

Hows your cover to fuel tank? When I had similar probs the surface between tank and pick up section thats mounted on top were not sealing properly. Little bits of corrosion were effecting that rubber seal on top of the tank. Might be worth a check.

something else to look at.:thumb2:thumb2

Got to the bottom of my starting issue this evening.:thumb2
Fuel lines had held the pressure from yesterday so i moved onto the electrics.
It turned out to be the short wire from the blue plug on top of the engine to the glow plug.
If i move it to a certain position it works but wiggle it about and the power drops off.
Bypassed the glow plug curcuit with a jump lead from the positive post of the battery to the glow plug and it fired up straight away.:clap
Think I've still got the plug and wire on my old engine so fingers crossed it will be a nice free fix:thumb2

Well my cheap easy fix didn't work:(
Changed the connector and cable and I'm still not getting power to the glow plugs.
If i disconnect the feed to the busbar I'm getting power but as soon as i connect it back up the power drops off.
New relay me thinks.:nenau

Cheap fix, do not get a genuine Nissan relay, just a generic 70 amp one fraction of the price, Rick

Just been looking on the Durite website.
Can get one for around a tenner:thumb2
Cheers Rick!!!!!

I put a Toyota one on my off road motor a couple of years ago and although been under water a few times, (new owner is reckless), it is still going strong, Rick

Seeing a voltage at a point, that then goes away when connected, means there is a high resistance joint somewhere. Modern meters draw so little current, that they can measure a voltage at the end of a damp bit of string.

If your meter has "Ohms" on it, you can check various bits of the circuit, to find the bit showing a resistance... you should not see anything over 0.5 ohms, and actually, a lot less, but allowing for cheaper meter readings, and getting the probes to connect, that's a good starting point.

It is most likely the relay, but while you have it out, check the crimped on terminals, as they can cause problems over time.

Another way to fault find, is to leave the glow plugs connected, and then follow the wire until the 12v disappears. The break will be somewhere between the two.

Quickest way to check if it the relay is to just connect the high current (thick) 12v in wire to the high current (thick) 12v out wire, and see if you are getting 12v at the glowplugs. if you are, then it's 99% the relay.

Cheers for the pointers Clive:thumb2
will put a new battery in my good tester and do a bit of probing:naughty:lol
Won't get chance until the weekend now to do anything but no doubt i will be back picking your brains if it goes t**ts up:lol:lol

While at work today i got to thinking if anything on the petrol Maverick i have sat on the drive would use a 70 amp relay for anything:nenau
Could rob it off that for a bit of testing:thumb2
