Thanks guys

I was just going to go for it with some WD40 and an extended socket set, I was told not to attempt them warm as the can seriously burn as when the engine is running they are in mode 3 "After Glow" until the engine gets to 50 degrees :nenau

what a load of cods once they have preheated the relay shuts them off they will then only be as hot as you let the engine get so buy the time you get the ic off soaked then again in fluid and waited 20 mins they will be more than cooled off to remove.
good luck

Ok so at 12am after being in London all day I thought it would be a good idea to figure out what the hell was going on under the hatch

Intercooler came off easy peasy, bagged the turbo and inlet to avoid dropping anything in, got the multi meter out, tested battery and got 12.5v, switched the ignition on and then tested the bus rail at each point where there was a plug, reading was 12.2v brilliant, tested all of the plugs and they all came back with really really really weird readings so I decided enough was enough and removed all 4 and wow was I shocked, correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't there be like a small nipple on the end of all those plugs :O

Did the jump lead test on all 4 and nothing :S

So I'm going to get 4 new ones tomorrow, I checked inside the block and there's no debris that appears to have fell in so I'm massively confused

Ok so replacing the plugs was a success :)

The only real issue I came across was that the Lucas plugs sit slightly higher than the ones already in the engine, this meant that the rail didn't sit straight on the plugs and needed a bit of bending due to the pipe obstructing it to the injectors

The nuts that came with the new plugs weren't very good so I re-used the old plastic screw cap ones

Tested the voltage again at the points where there was a plug on the rail and this time was getting a reading of 10.5 - 11.0v which makes sense to me

The real test now will be leaving the car until later this evening and then trying to start it whilst it's very cold, fingers crossed this solves my problem :)

Them plugs had seen better days! not good when running veg oil! Hope it solves your starting issue. Ive had starting issues this week too, thought it was the battery so fitted a new one and still the same  Then read one of your old posts about the starter motor issues you had posted and decided that i had the same problem. Ordered a recon starter and fitted it this afternoon and im well happy now it starts instant! Going to check my glow plugs too, may as well now ive done the battery and starter!

Those plugs were ceramic and the ceramic bit has broken off/disintegrated and gone into your engine, would never use ceramic plugs, Rick

Well new plugs fitted, let it sit for 5 or 6 hours, went back out, stat showed the car was stone cold, gave it a turn of the key, waited for the click of the relay, turned him over and............. RESULT :D it burst into life like it always used to

Cheers mate, tell me about it, starting on veg usually has its problems never mind having 4 dead plugs too :O

Ah don't worry about it mate, now you have a new starter and battery there's not much else in that area that can go wrong now :), the starter is a horrible job!!!! Did you opt for the through the drivers side wheel arch method or did you go through the top?

Fingers crossed for you bud :thumb2

Systems are all go again my friend :)

Took the starter out through the wheel arch, its not too bad now i have the body lift it just gives you that extra room you need!!! still not the easiest job to do that top bolt is a b*tch to get to!!
Im running 100 % bio and its starting fine now.. weird symptoms from the starter motor never had one go like that before!!
Have you run wvo before?

Just been having a look and read some of your posts, i have not run svo/wvo oil before but can get clean filtered oil for 70p/litre which sounds tempting. Ithink i will stick to bio till the summer then maybe give it a go :thumbs

I see your point but life is more interesting when you take risks :lol

Damn straight!!!!
