if its not one thing its another! had to replace alternator and battery before christmas, glow plugs last week and when the misus and i went for dinner at some friends last night the starter motor packed in! (lots of wirring noises but doesn't crank the engine). ordered a new one from online automotive today and will get it tommorow.
so my question to everybody is...........whats the easiest way to get at and change the starter? i suppose after all this at least the mav will have noprobs starting! (touch wood, fingers crossed and all that)

Hi t-jay.
Jack up and take the off-side front road wheel off.Pull the rubber skirt away from the inner wheel arch leaving a hole where you should be able to see the starter and work on it from there.Dont forget the saftey side ie axle stands dont want it trapping you. Watch the thick wire going to the starter motor its live you may want to disconnect battery,Hope you've got the radio codes just in case.
GOOD LUCK GRIZZLER

I had problems getting the starter in and out through bottom. You need to get at the bolts from bottom/inner wing, but I had to take out and refit from the top as brake pipe caused me a problem from the bottom.

Best to use a 14mm rachet spanner as you cant get a socket on the 2 bolts to remove starter.

changed the starter motor tonight  thanks for all the advice guys.
i have to say that i don't want to do that again in a hurry! what a pig of a job. i think i've scraped and cut all of my knuckles  a rubix cube is easier to do than try and get the starter motor in and out of that tiny space lol.

forgot to mention that one of the bolts was missing too. that could have been the reason why the old one failed :?:
m10, 1.5 thread x 30mm long. (just incase anyone needs a replacement).
