specs case

Heres a question a lot of you will know where im coming from, sorry nowt to do with 4x4 ing so Adz will get upset :naughty

I'm wearing specs more and more but not all of the the time.Unfortunately Ive got a load of previous for breaking the f'ing things. They get bashed up in my rucksack and ive ran over one pair fixing the car.

Anyone any idea for a well hard make of case

Hi Dave

Best bet is to try find a hard camera case with a belt loop or something similar. If your glasses are the folding variety, you could get a fairly compact camera case with a hard shell. Also check some opticians who sell sports glasses, they may have something suitable and always consider your local pound shop, might have some suitable container not specifically for glasses but could work. It's always best (and sometimes cheaper) to think outside the box, glasses manufacturers seem to forget that their cases are usually crappy and expenive, outdoor pursuits shops seem to cover unusual storage requirements. I bought a pair of stainless steel spec cases from Zabadabadoos at Skeggy they cost about £1.99 I am pretty sure you will fing some on flea bay.

You can get a mobile phone hard case that goes on your belt.Not the usual vertical type but a horizontal one.Check your local market.

one other thing to consider, insist on real glass lenses all major spectacle suppliers will do the easy option (plastic) would you even contemplate a plastic windscreen? Think about it, specs made of plastic cost nowt to make(the cheap option) insist on glass and they will do them, they will argue about weight ect but unless you actually crush them they will last.
oh and my method of not sitting on them(or losing them) is to wear them.

I would have thought, MrD, that with your engineering training, it wouldn't be beyond your gift to knock something up using a soft bag or thin foam tube for the specs, which you then insert into a piece of plastic pipe (small drainpipe for example) with two stop ends. Uncrushable even by your presumably (reading between the lines of your confession) lardy arse. :lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

Oh and suitably cheap, leaving spare cash to lavish on't whippets and ferrets.....

I only need glassses to read, so I now only buy the £1 ones from pound stretchers, as I have destroyed and lost many pairs.
They come in a small plastic tube. I have lots of empty tubes now.
I put drills, Taps in them now.....:doh


I have stepped back and crushed several pairs.
I often keep them in my top pocket, so as I bend over they fall out, often into the canal, River, Lock, there is even a pair in the pond.

I think there is a pair under the bathroom floor, since I couldn't find them after I replaced the floor several years ago.

Certainly plastic lens are not the way to go if you are into DIY.
They end up on the bench in sawdust, metal shavings etc.
