Got to road test it but when revved freely the engine would misfire at around 2000 rpm or a little higher well looked at the turbo and the arm was able to push open on the waste gate a tiny bit think it was loosing boost. So two whole turns on the waste gate arm and it don't misfire any more be interesting to see if it's cured now when driving at that rev range on the motorway at 50mph as it use to have a light misfire at that speed

Well done :thumb2- this has been a very irritating problem for many on this forum and some have given up and are just living with the problem.

Very interesting your findings as I have spent months trying all sorts of things to try and cure this exact problem at 2000 rpm.

I have found adding a teaspoon of cetain to the tank every tankfull of diesil has cured it. I say cured but maybe it's masking the problem :doh

I will have a look at mine to see if your fix is the solution to my problem.

if the waste gate is slack and bleeding the early boost from the turbo, yes this will make sense, but one has to ask what has altered for this to happen, adjusting the rod may cure it short term, unless some other person has adjusted it to give more boost but turned it the wrong way, time will tell, Rick

I think it had a replacement turbo and was adjusted wrong it now runs with some more power but still has a very slight surge at 50mph more like a fluttering.

It's funny as well as a lot of people say it's normal for them to have a slight misfire when revved freely but I can't see that being right

If yours is a TDi then yes it will splutter when revved at stand still. The ECU uses a basic running map until you move off. There's a sensor in the gearbox I think that checks for road speed, then the ECU changes to a driving along map.
Twiddling the waste gate actuator is surely just going to change the boost a bit. However you could be right in that it was badly adjusted as there shouldn't be any slack.

I think it was badly adjusted just need to sort that slight misfire at 50mph
