Hi
My new to me 1998 Maverick SWB 2.7TD came with two 2 button oval key fobs. However even after replacing their batteries I can't get either to program as per instruction although the vehicle appears to go into program mode O/K.
Not sure whether its the transponder unit in the door or these fobs.
Therefore if someone would be willing to try to program them on their vehicle as it would be a known good source. I will post them with return envelope and this could help establish where my problem lies.
Graham in Dorset.

Hope this helps.
I have one of the oval type remotes with a red and a black button. Tried programming it to my 54 plate truck but it wouldn't. So I'd say you'll need someone with the same type of remotes.
Incidentally I also found the unlock button is goosed on one of my original keys, confirmed this with a multimeter. Being the unlock button being faulty it inhibits the programming sequence.

Good luck.

Hi Graham

Im sorry I must have missed your first thread.

The best thing I can reccomend that you do is remove your steering column plastic shroud, this will expose the central locking module which on a white label should give you the frequency that yours runs on.

From memory I've seen 2 different types across the years, IIRC the earlier ones were 418MHz and later ones 433MHz? Think both modules are made by Siemens

Once you've figured this out pop back and then we'll start the key programming sequence diagnostics pal :)

OK on arrival could get no response from either fob, tried on the Mav and T2 nothing, so pulled em to bits to check the contacts and switches were all working, they are gold pad and carbonated rubber types, they appeared clean but gave them a clean anyway, re assembled em and went back out to the Mav, lo and behold both programmed up first time, now this confirms that the Mav is 433.92 Mhz and the T2 are 418 Mhz, which also means none of my spare fobs are any good for you as they are all 418 Mhz, both are now in the return envelope ready to pop in the post tomorrow, Rick

Forgot to say, prog = ignition on and off 6 times haz should flash twice, pres and hold black button, press red button 3 times, release black button haz should flash once, same with other fob, then ignition to on haz should flash twice, test the fobs, Rick

Fob Testing

Appreciate the effort to test and get the fobs going. When I get them back I try the stated routine. Should be in with a chance
Regards to all

Key Fob Received and Programmed O/K

Hi Rick.

Received Key Fobs back and they both programmed up O/K.

Appreciate your support.

That's another issue off the Mavericks problem list.

Next is the Airbag light. Not lighting at all so unknown state.
I will check the dash bulb and if required then put up a post asking for more help.

Regards

Graham

Fair play both :thumb2

Sounds to me like the bulb is out. When you've checked it let us know if it's flashing. If it is it can be cleared, clear it and see if it returns :thumb2

It is a long life LED so unlikely to be the bulb, may have been disconnected or masked over, but MOT fail if it is not there, I have bulbs if needed, Rick

Ironically if it is on, it's not necessarily an MOT fail, but if it does not come on when the dash does the initial light test, that is a fail.

programming central locking key

Hi,

Odd one as was working til few weeks ago.

Moment of laziness had new battery fitted at a key cutter, Timpsons.

Reckons will have lost memory but key locks doors.
Tried several time programming sequence, still locks but wont unlock.

Annoying it the built into key type and only had it rebuilt last year but
rubber unlock button already has dent in it.

Miss the desperate fob type. Trying to get both fingers on key in barrel
is tight.

Also spare key is only programming to lock function, does this sound
like a deeper fault with keys or NATS?

I recon the button is not working, they get dirty and do not contact, depends what type it is as to if it can be replaced or maybe cleaned, Rick

Firstly before I forget, you've still got a nicely wrapped up roof rack in the rafters in my garage matey :thumb2

Have you tried the normal procedure of switching the ignition on from position 0 to 2 5 times within 10 seconds, waiting for the hazards to flash, then pressing and holding unlock while you press lock 3 times and then release the unlock button thus flashing the hazards again indicating that the programming was successful?

Once you go into the learn mode, I've noticed from past experience that it will then lose it's pairing with any of the other keys that it previously had stored so you'll need all your keys handy :thumb2

I have this same issue with my 99plate truck. Can get one working correctly but subsequent fobs only one function despite known good fobs. Wife drives the truck so never gone any further really.:lol:lol

Have to say those integrated key n rubber buttons are crap.
Only replaced rubbers last year and as for press/hold/press 3 times
whilst key in barrel, well must be a job for a child's fingers.

Zac, thanks mate, one of these days will get kids to Bourneville and
meet up.

Do wonder if can replace fob with something more modern, our CMax
has a key that folds in and much better buttons, or one of the much
older separate fobs, but wonder if as hinted frequency differs.
