not sure if that works well in the UK. the phone line is 50v DC when not in use, with a current of around 5mA I think, but that rises to about 25mA when a call is being made. I can't remember the current when its ringing, but its 75V and it fricking stings I can tell you that

They reckon in a major incident most cities would lose most of their standard mobile coverage in a very short time (cant recall exact figures at this time of night ) Thats why only the very unwise have reliance on mobiles in their emergency and business continuity plans, have a bag of change and a little black book.

Theres loads of anecdotal evidence and accounts after Manchester and London to name just 2 where phone boxes kept going strong, plus BT bring in their emergency kit :thumb2

the trouble with a solar storm , is it generates a magnetic field of varying intensity ( geomagnetism ) , not only can that effect radio signals , it can also by its very nature effect electrical/electronic equipment to varying intensities also , another problem is when the magnetic field collapses .... but its starting to get a bit heavy now , and ive got some studying to do for my exam
