Hi all, i am in the middle of fabricating my side bars at the moment but was thinking about the design and layout of the snorkel i intend on making and was thinking about the top...

Most seem to have something on the lines of this...

my question is does this not draw water/ rain in if you were travelling at any speed and it was raining?
If yes then what is the answer?

cheers

That would be my worry as well, but you might be able to incorporate some type of one way valve on a drain point at the lowest point.

On the other hand I have seen some land rovers locally that appear to have a cone on the top. Actually they look like an upturned flower pot...

I wouldn't worry, While it's raining mine feels like it pulls better.

Rain gets vapourized in the vortex and it acts like water injection anyway, hence why it goes better

and those land rover flower pots are quite restrictive on the breathing front
Mines an internal snorkel and has a roof scoop, no probs , but I do have a drain off too

I went with the inverted flower pot design, mainly because it was cheaper and a bit less flash than the scoop type.
I've not noticed any restriction or lose of performance.
It has sort of vanes on the air intake side which should create a vortex which should remove at least some of the water than may be sucked in.
I doubt it really makes any difference which sort you use, what ever you think looks best at the right price.
The biggest problem I had was I went for 76mm 3" pipe and the only size I could find was 2.5" so I had to do a bit of adapting to make it fit.
